I would like to give 5 stars as food was nice and manager was kind.

HOWEVER going to this pub on valentines day was a huge mistake. The lady I took had a very upsetting moment because a member of staff in kitchen was rude, got in my face and shouted rude comments about my asking for someone to take my order.

He lied said they had only one staff and swore. The lady I was with heard and then was to afraid to eat anything on plate that was liquid as she feared his anger would cause him to hurt food somehow.

I reassuring her told her he likey is just depressed or having hard time at home. BUT her father being chief trading standards officer causes her to be ultra cautious.

I would like to affirm that the waitress was really helpful and only that one person ruined our night.

I had to listen to her all night going on about the last place we went to and what happened when a staff member cut her off while she talked about twilight and what happened when she told her father.

I did say then that it's not a concern for trading standards and I empathise with twilight not being as intriguing as well... much, however, which I'm sure will happen here....

Her father put in a surprise inspection and because of twilight the place ended up failing several codes and when we went bk there was new staff and it was actually better and cleaner....so hey 4 twilight.

She told her dad and he said il add them to a list. Hopefully he is just humouring her. But last time not so much.

I like this place so if I was you just make such there are no code violations and all will be well.

We are from London so won't be bk for awhile and next time il hope it still open.

Lovely place please dont be put off. The guy is just needing a hug.

5 out of 5 without the...

This is the second time we've been here and for the life of me I don't know why because it wasn't great the first time, 20 minute wait to get in then you have to use the app except WiFi is patchy and data won't load so then you've got to get someone to take an order which is an endeavour in itself but he's a smart guy you can tell by how he doesn't wear his mask over his mouth and nose like he's supposed to, he will "remember" because he doesn't have a pen to take an order seems foolproof right?

Sure enough bits of the order don't turn up, drinks don't arrive till one of us is done eating, high chair for the baby shows up 15 minutes after my food so I end up eating with the baby on my lap whilst one of us is still waiting for food without a drink.

anytime we asked for anything it didn't turn up not because staff were busy but he outright ignored us, when the food arrived it wasn't worth the effort and had about as much moisture as a two day old newspaper, usually we'd order more drinks but I just wanted to leave by then, my daughter was getting restless and it was infinitely more stressful then it needed to be, spoons is usually great you get the same experience everywhere but I'll be going to the Picture House in Bexhill instead...

Update 3: Things have definitely been sorted out now. The issues I posted with update 2 have pretty much gone away. The staff are friendly and efficient, we have been back a few times now, and the food has always been consistent, hot, and good value, especially like the vegan katsu curry, delicious. Can recommend this place again.

Update 2: even though we thought we wouldn't go back, we did, sat had a drink, tables all about cluttered with finished plates and uncollected glasses, didn't order food, went elsewhere, very poor. Score a year ago, 4 stars, now 1 star. Avoid except for some cheap drinks amongst the mess, if that's your thing.

Update: been going here for quite a few years each week, but recently it's really gone down hill, sticky dirty tables, everything needs a good clean, until this is stored we won't be back...

Good weatherspoons with a comfortable atmosphere, never feels as frantic as the other spoons in town. quality ales friendy staff and the music is a perfect background level mixed with the conversation of the punters. food is actually pretty good although not many options for our vegan needs, but at least...
