Giggling Squid - Weybridge — Restaurant in Elmbridge

We have visited the Giggling Squid in Weybridge on 02/10/2021. The setting is lovely, very warm colours and a lot of light and flowers everywhere! This is why we have chosen the place in the first place! And this is how far the positive feedback goes! Although we have hoped that we will find some dishes that we would enjoy, unfortunately it was not the case. We have ordered the Royal fishing boat curry which had 2 mussels and 5 pieces of 1sq inch squid and a normal sized piece of salmon. Although on the menu it is not mentioned that the sauce (curry) will be chilly or sweet whatsoever, it was both! The other 2 dishes ordered (chubby cheek pork and pad thai noodles) were both extremely sweet for our taste. If sweet food or a combination of sweet and chilly is your thing you will probably enjoy the Giggling Squid. On the other hand if you like european continental or american food you will not enjoy this at all! We tried our best to try to somehow enjoy the food but it was impossible! Regarding the customer service, although the waitresses were available and responsive and although being asian obviously contributes to the restaurant speciality and theme, it would not be bad if their english skills would be better (speaking/listening). Had a dinner here as I’m staying locally for the weekend and really wanted a decent Thia.

Restaurant was covid secure and practiced caution while offering customers free disposable face masks if they didn’t have one , hand sanitizer stations are available on entry to the restaurant and through out .

Staff were friendly on entrance and serviced the tables quite regularly . After ordering food it arrived pretty quick . For starters we had Prawn crackers , Delicious Thai chicken wings , Salt and pepper squid , Chicken satay and Spring rolls . The starters were great , however the chicken wings tasted quite dry and “microwaved” so wouldn’t order the chicken wings again .

The mains , Morning glory ,Pek choi ,Jasmin rice Sticky rice ,Chicken massaman ,Chicken chilli gra prow . I felt the potion of rice was very very small and the Jasmin rice was very dry and slightly crispy.

In terms of the veggi dish they were fantastic but the pek Choi was poor giving us only half of a pek choi and the rest was broccoli stems , I specifically ordered pek Choi and didn’t want it bulked out with broccoli 🥦

Outstanding! What a marvellous place. A very clean and calm atmosphere, beautifully decorated and everything from the front door to the bathroom was clean and a high standard. The staff maintained their cleanliness and presentation. The staff were extremely polite, friendly, neat, attentive and always approached with a smile. The food was excellent. It had great taste and great portion size. I would definitely recommend the crying beef to any steak eaters, the moo ping and pork belly was tasty too for the pork eaters. They have a nice cocktail list with Thai influence rather than the traditional English cocktail list. They are delicious! I would recommend the Thai Sambai as it’s very refreshing.
