I booked the Pearl of China for family birthday and a celebration of life for 10 people. For ease of ordering we had both set menus (including the vegetarian one as their veg dishes, like the aubergine, are incredibly good too). We also ordered a few of our favourites, the crispy beef and ma po tofu. The food never disappoints and we are a Chinese family, with a great chef whose life we were celebrating, so we know good Chinese food and this is really good. No MSG is used which also means the food, while still delicious feels cleaner and better for you. Wei and her staff are also wonderful. As a special touch they decorated our table with a birthday balloon, banner and even made us a apple and banana fritter cake with candle. We usually order take away from the Pearl of China, but it was fantastic to have the in restaurant experience too. Price wise; of course it's not the cheapest, but it's not the most expensive, it's well priced for the excellent quality you get. We are very lucky to have such a good Chinese restaurant nearby with seriously good chefs from Hong Kong. We love it!...
Read moreCame here for lunch today at 1.10 pm. The first thing the waitress said to us was ‘kitchen closes at 2’ with an unwelcoming attitude. My seafood crispy noodle was very salty and greasy. My daughter’s beef hofun was badly burnt. When we paid the bill the waitress quickly cleared everything off the table even though my daughter was still eating their prawn crackers. When my daughter asked if she could have one more cracker, the waitress asked me, ‘did you have any more crackers in the basket because we don’t allow prawn crackers to take away’. I told her, you took it away and you tell me. The basket was still half full. And I was shocked at her attitude. She didn’t apologize but started to argue with me. Awful food. Awful waitresses. Stay away! The fact that there was only one table at lunch time says a lot.
Read moreResidents in this small town/borough (not sure about the correct description) are very lucky to have this restaurant here as the decor, food, and service are on the same par with middle-to-higher end Chinese Restaurants in Hong Kong (where I came from) and in Canada (where I’ve called home for thirty years). The chefs here do a very good job of preparing authentic (mostly Cantonese - southern China) dishes. I was in the UK for two weeks travelling and stumbled on this Restaurant on my way back to London from Bath. Thank you to the service staff who enabled one of my fellow travellers to enjoy a fabulous birthday dinner! The menu range is wide and you should try the various items (Note: Peking duck isn’t the usual style with pieces of duck skin with meat, which was a bit of a disappointment - Hope this can...
