There are many things to love about The Surrey Coffee Company. Starting with the drinks, coffees are offered with a variety of milk / milk alternatives, and they have processes in place to cater for allergies, so I know that I can have my preference of oat milk, and it will be steamed /foamed in a different jug to that used with almond milk.
There's a great choice of food, though I've mainly taken advantage of the breakfast menu. The quality and presentation of the food, whether it be kitchen prepared or the bakes / pastries, makes it a consistent front runner for my choice of breakfast venue.
Ben and the staff are always welcoming, accommodating, and friendly, providing quick and consistent service. It's a family and dog friendly venue so everyone can feel comfortable whether you're sitting inside, outside or getting your food / drink to takeaway.
The Surrey Coffee Company is one of the best cafés that keeps its social media informative as well as creative. It showcases the weekly bakes, publishes the opening hours, informs on the rare occasion that the kitchen may not be fully operative, and especially during lockdown when videos were posted of what was being sold in store, and what Covid measures were in place, I know that I can go to the cafe and feel safe, while buying all the items I required.
As with many independent businesses, lockdown provided immense challenges to the staff, venue, and patrons. Although it had only been open for a short while before the announcement, it was swift to adapt as a business, and provided services to the local community. Once again, due to the information provided by the social media account I knew that I could buy oat milk, fruit, vegetables, bread, and enjoy a coffee because every morning they'd post a video of what was available in store.
If you're looking for a place for breakfast /lunch /brunch /coffee in the Walton / Elmbridge area then The Surrey Coffee Company should be one of the top contenders. There's plenty of parking nearby, it's close to The Heart shopping centre, and is a short walk to the Thames where you can enjoy a relaxing walk. There's also a good sized cycle rack...
Read moreThe staff were not professional at all and communication was poor. All seemed too young, needed a manager there. When you sit down you aren't sure if it's table service or to order at the bar, a girl came to clear something off the table and didn't mention it. Something that could be said when someone sits down. When we went to the bar to order I asked for hollindaise sauce on the side on my breakfast, they said they couldn't do it as they didn't have anything to put it in. Again with communication, once we ordered nothing was said about if we wait for our hot drinks to be made to take them, or if we can sit down and they will bring them over. We stood there unsure what to do, had to ask. The food then came over to the table in takeaway boxes, when no question of takeaway was asked, I also did mention the table number when ordering. We asked if they could put the food on plates so we can eat in, the waitress went back to the kitchen, the chef must of said to just serve it as it is, as the waitress came back out and said "can you just eat it in these" as if it was a massive inconvenience for the kitchen to simply put the food on plates to please the customer. We reluctantly said yes as didn't want to ask a second time, and as she didn't say anything else we had to then ask her what was in each box, rather than waitress saying what each meal was. It wasn't the best eating our breakfast out of a small box. I felt the food I had was actually quite nice, but the service and communication and lack of pleasing the customer by moving to plates really let the experience down. Definitely need some manager presence or proper training on...
Read moreI’ve been visiting this cafe for almost three years, mainly because it’s the most appealing independent cafe in Walton. I used to really enjoy coming here as the food was great and handy being local however during my recent visits the food has been average and lacked effort. For example, the food is poorly presented and portions are random, such as a huge amount of yoghurt smothering a tiny waffle.
The service now is mainly conducted by seemingly hungover teenagers who couldn’t care less whether you have a fork to eat your eggs Benedict.
Like similar reviewers I also don’t understand why the ‘dine in’ drinks are served in micro plastic laden disposable cups. Whilst they might be recyclable they aren’t a great option for the consumer.
The atmosphere can feel unwelcoming when eyes stare ar you when you walk in but no one says hello or good morning. Be prepared to awkwardly grab a menu from the front of the counter, order and collect the coffee yourself and pay around £40 for breakfast for two people.
Hopefully the owners can take on the constructive feedback, rather than response defensively and turn this place around as it used...
