I came for Christmas Day dinner with my partner and I have to say I disagree with the other reviews and I feel quite disappointed with the experience this year. I had the cauliflower soup which was cold, watery and bland and the bowl it was in was half the size of last years, the scallops my partner had were awful they were hard and chewy, the mains took nearly 1 hour to come after the starters were cleared. The Brussels sprouts were rock hard we could not cut into them! There was 1 small slice of turkey, a small child could prob eat more and the piece of duck was chewy, the gravy was watery and very runny and the 2 roast potato’s were anemic looking and there was no more than one small teaspoon of swede. No stuffing and I notice from another reviewers photo they had cranberry sauce in a little pot on the side of the plate, we didn’t get this and wasn’t offered any. The chocolate mouse was not creamy and had a powdery texture which was not nice. The positives were it was a friendly atmosphere, the drinks were fine and the Yorkshire puddings was good. Overall this was disappointing for nearly £100 a person , I can only think that because we had booked for the later time that they had run out of things or they just could be bothered anymore. We have been twice before this and those times were great but this was totally different this year so we will not be...
Read moreI asked for a burger with no cheese as I am allergic. When I removed the top bun from my burger to put ketchup on I noticed small pieces of cheese stuck to the beef patty (as if cheese had been put on by mistake and then removed). I asked for a fresh burger and explained that I wasn't being fussy but was allergic. The chef then came out looking extremely annoyed and basically told me off for his mistake as apparently it was all my fault. He said I should have informed them that I was allergic beforehand and told me that I could only eat a salad from the menu in case I was allergic to anything else. The chef made a mistake with my burger, was caught out, couldn't handle it and rather then apologise he decided to blame me. When my friend spoke to the waitress about the bad attitude of the chef, the waitress stormed off mid conversation. What can I say their attitudes stink! It's not the first time and I doubt will be the last time that I receive an incorrect order but I have never been made to feel like It's my fault and then basically told I can't eat there. If you have allergies the Swan won't cater for you (unless I was just told that out of spite for simply pointing out their mistake, which is a strong possibility!) The chef had a very arrogant, rude manner, I won't...
Read moreThis was my family’s first visit to the swan and we had high hopes, but they were quickly diminished. The place is lovely and the staff are great, but the food is disappointing vs a great menu. My burger bun was visibly wet with oil making it inedible. Thankfully, I took the top bun off and was greeted by a lovely hair inside.. the waitress didn’t seem very shocked but gladly refunded it for me. My son has a nut allergy and is very fussy. He asked for a kids burger but without the cheese.. the burger was brought out to him and it had cheese inside so we had to send this back. The burger patty wasn’t a full patty and weirdly looked like it had a section missing. My partners mussels were ok but he said they were tasteless and the sourdough was really dry and tough. I ordered hommous and crudités for my baby and the hommous just looked like porridge. She isn’t fussy and eats anything but even she refused that. This pub has so much potential to be great… just such a shame that the food is...
