Disappointing experience â lack of communication, poor service, rude staff.
We visited this pub looking forward to a relaxed Sunday roast with our young child. Upon arrival, we spoke to a member of staff about where to sit, but unfortunately werenât informed that roast dinners were no longer available. We also weren't told that the ordering app wasnât working. Then later found out food wait was over one hour.
We spent time trying to use the app and planning what roast dinners to order, only to be told at the bar that there were no roasts available and the app was down. It was disappointing, especially as we had a young child who needed to eat, and we had specifically come out for a Sunday roast.
Despite the inconvenience, we took more time to look through the menu and choose something else. With a young child we just really needed to eat. When we returned to order, a staff member (who we had already spoken to twice) shouted to a colleague, âIs the wait still an hour?â I was shocked that no one had mentioned this earlier â not when we first arrived, not during the previous two interactions.
I politely said it would have been helpful to be told sooner, especially as I had a young child with me. The staff member didnât respond â he just glared at me. It felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude. I remained calm and respectful, even when I repeated that it would have been helpful to be told earlier for medical and practical reasons. My daughter has ADHD. Staff just not aware or caring that we were not communicated to.
Upset, I returned to our table and explained to my partner that we would need to leave due to the wait and the poor communication. He also tried to speak to the same staff member, who again offered no explanation or apology â just the same cold glare. He seemed to be a manager, which made the lack of care and courtesy even more disappointing.
We left feeling frustrated, unheard, and frankly unwelcome. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share this as a reminder that communication and basic courtesy go a long way â especially when families with young children are involved. A simple explanation or heads-up at the beginning would have made all...
Read moreI was recently hired to Dj in their function room. Firstly, credit were credit is due the room is decorated well and presented lovely and I have always loved the bears paw every-time Iâve visited for food or drink. However, after djing their I wonât be returning. I have been djing for years and Iâm totally used to the odd problem with equipment, set up space, miscommunications with venue staff etc. We managed to keep the music going throughout the night but with great difficulty. As a rule we always use our own PA and against our better judgement with advice from the venue staff we decided to use theirs, we were assured there was wifi, built in speakers of a great quality and a working amp all set up so no need to bring anything other than an iPad and due to the size of the venue there wouldnât be enough room for it. First of all there was no wifi, which we found out on the day⊠luckily we came prepared and downloaded all of our playlists and we could hotspot from our phones connecting us to the internet. Their amp was completely goosed (which two different members of staff mentioned saying it was âtemperamentalâ ) even when we kept the volume low it was cutting out. And the cable plugging the iPad into the amp was broken aswell, meaning by the end of the night me and my fellow DJ were taking it in turns to stand behind the bar and hold the cable in place. My issue however was not with all these obstacles it was with the attitude of the owner who refused to accept any responsibility whatsoever. He was extremely rude and patronising. His excuse was that hiring sound equipment wasnât a service he provided. However he did offer the service⊠his staff actually not only offered the service but strongly advised it. When I mentioned the amp not working properly he said I must have had the volume too loud and that it could only go up to a certain point, which was less than half way basicallyâŠso definitely not working. The owner who was sat having a pint at the time should have left his staff to deal with the complaint as they were far more polite and...
Read moreVery disappointed with food in bears paws this evening . We have just purchased house in Frodsham and weâre on our first night out to try the menus in the town . Pub is very pretty and very relaxing decor but the food was not good at all .I ordered chicken fatizas and my mother ordered liver and onions ... what came out for my mother was disgusting instead of liver it was Mush which looked like it had been liquidised . My mother didnât want to cause fuss and tried to eat this when I saw her eating around the edge I tasted the so called liver and it was deplorable and has actually made my mother ill .. my chicken fazitas was actually a plate of peppers with a few chicken strips included which tasted like it had been reheated and tough . The guy who showed us to our table came over was very apologetic and offered to change food I declined mine as I wasnât hungry but my mother ordered steak sandwich . You would expect that this would be perfect yes the chips were nice and fresh we had to look for the steak in the sandwich which was hidden in sauce . Truthfully Iâd say there was 1 ounce of steak in the whole sandwich which was embarrassing for the chef . In fairness the guy on duty who was also managing the door offered us desserts and was very apologetic so I have no issues with his service . My mother left the second meal and we drank our drinks and left paying the bill . My mother has been sick since we returned home due to the food here .. what a shame our first night in the town has been a let down ... I would certainly recommend this pub for the ambiance and girl behind the bar and the guy on service but would recommend you either change the person in the kitchen as I donât believe for one minute the person in kitchen tonite is a chef or give them some training in presentation...
