Worst experience I've had in a restaurant. We decided to try here while waiting for our train one morning, as we had an hour to spare and the menu on the door looked good. As we entered I saw a female server just staring at us from the back of the cafe but not smiling or making a move to approach us or beckon us in. It was super awkward as the place is small and other customers were looking at us just standing there, but I assumed there was no space and hesitated in the doorway to wait for her to let us know. However my boyfriend spotted a free table (right next to this server) and walked in, so I followed. As we sat down she did not offer a word of greeting, a nod or a smile, or in fact any kind of acknowledgement, but put the menus on the table. I thought it was very odd and felt uncomfortable, but as my boyfriend didn't say anything I thought I had misread her signs and kept quiet. Anyway we chose what we wanted but she never came back. Over the next 15 minutes the people at the table next to us paid and left, the table was cleaned, a new party arrived and were greeted by a male server, sat down and immediately ordered drinks. In the mean time I saw the female server quite often, walking around, inside and outside, going 'where's Lucy?' in an exasperated manner. She repeated this question probably about 5 or 6 times. My boyfriend and I continued chatting but by this time someone should have taken our order. Another 10 minutes passed. The male server brought the drinks to the table beside us and proceeded to take their food orders. My boyfriend and I agreed this was really strange behaviour and at this point he mentioned he had noticed the waitress acting like she hadn't wanted us to come in. The next time she passed he motioned that we would like to order. She nodded and went to the back, I assume, to get her pad, but when she came back she walked right past us and started taking orders from that same table next to us! I was actually shocked! It was too much for me. I stood up and we made our exit. As I was leaving I looked back at her and she was, again, staring at me with a kind of baffled look on her face. I wish I had said something but I was feeling too emotional so I didn't. I don't like making assumptions but I was the only person in that establishment who wasn't white, so maybe that had something to do with it? Or maybe this girl was having a rough day? Who knows. All I know for sure is I have never experienced such unprofessional 'service', or felt so unwelcomed and so ignored. We visited Sunday September 15th...
Read moreFirst experience - menu says freshly squeezed oj but not a single "bit" was to be found in my glass. I wanted an oat flat white and if most establishments run out of oat milk they tend to nip to the local store and accommodate your request. I was told no as they were closing soon. Hash was pretty good but I had to watch my boyfriend drinking a nice coffee with his. Was willing to let the pettiness of the first visit go until second experience - admittedly I was 5 minutes late but my food was just left on the side going as cold as the atmosphere in there. The same girl with her head in the clouds served me. My name had been taken wrong, she tried to over charge me £10 for an egg and the way she laughed off over charging me just made me feel like it's a common tactic. Take away portions seem incredibly stingy compared to eating in when they are charging the same price. Overall I won't be going in for...
Read moreReally weird rule where customers already seated have the right to tell you if they want you sat next to them or not, the table in question was also outside. Admittedly they we were pretty close, but they were definitely separate tables. When asked if anyone was sitting there, the guy was less than pleasant at the the thought of us taking the table. When i asked the staff what the policy is they said its the customers decision to let us sit there or not. If thats the case then the table thats left empty should have some kind of notice on it to save embarrassment. I am a local but i will...
