It's been a long time since we visited Bistro En Glaze, not because of any problems we'd encountered, simply a series of events (covid, new owners, limited/restricted opening times etc) that meant we just lost the habit of going. OMG! what have we missed as a result. B. E. G. now do breakfast from 8.00 so we ventured back and tucked into a beautifully cooked, well presented, fabulously tasty English breakfast served in the rear garden by the amazing (dog crazy - yes they love dogs here) Giovanna and her team. We then booked lunch for the following Sunday. As before, absolutely top draw in every regard. I implore you to visit for breakfast, lunch, dinner or simply coffee and Cake. Based on our double visit, you won't regret it. My only regret is I didn't rediscover this gem sooner.

Whilst I am a regular here, you could think I'm bias, but you could also take from that, that to be a regular, the place has to be good for people to keep going back and become regulars! We just popped in for a Sunday dinner, which we used to do every week, but are trying not to eat out as much, and my God, whilst the Sunday dinner was lovely as it always is, the standouts today were the Scotch Egg starter, and Chocolate Mousse dessert. I have said it for a couple of years now and I'll say it again, some of the food here from Euan is levels above anywhere in the local area, and even centre of Newcastle - and the service from Giovanna & team are the icing on the cake. Update: Crab starter, unbelievable, see pic.

Exactly what needed to start my day En Glaze, Wylam scrambled tofu with vegetables, a refined vegan nod to the full English - was my choice this morning. I'll be back to enjoy the garden on a sunny day, and I'm quietly impressed they're already fully booked for Christmas dinner... in August. A true gem for locals, a beloved stop for cyclists (though they surely know this already), and for those walking Hadrian's Wall - a journey that, like morning pages, clears the mind and offers answers that arrive unexpectedly, yet feel just right ▶️

We were walking the wall and rather than stay in Heddon we opted for Wylam. Nice choice. The Laburnum Guest House at Bistro en Glaze was probably the nicest room in all the inns on the 12 day trip (3 of those days were in London).||||Our room was larger than the typical English inn room, which is generally very tight - closer to an American standard in size - it was nicely decorated in a violet color with lots of small details. The proprietor is a gardener (or at least plays the role well) - the back garden is completely revamped over the grassy lawn shown in older pictures. My understanding is that the proprietor is new-ish, maybe having owned the property less than a year (writing this summer 2022). He was helpful to us as we had to leave some baggage fees for a vendor the next day after we had departed - and he had it all sorted out no troubles. Oh also - the price was right - cheaper than almost every other inn we booked on this whole trip.||||Wylam is a small and charming town with food and beverage options that are bigger than you'd think. The Bistro en Glaze here at the guest house is a fine restaurant. For a great bar, walk 5 minutes across to the train station and have a fab time at the Boathouse - an active and friendly pub. ||||I loved our room and am so glad we chose this property in sweet little Wylam to begin our wall walk....

This evening, 9th January we have had the most wonderful meal. Our waiters were Matthew and David. They were both competent, professional, courteous, polite and very efficient. In fact they are both outstanding. Their skills added to the ambiance of this warm, cosy, intimate bistro. The food was outstanding. We started with tomatoe soup and smoked salmon. Both starters were superb. Main course for the 2 of us consisted of medium cooked fillet steak which was sublime. The sauce was beautiful and the chips wonderful. The macaroni cheese was fantastic, just too much to eat. Only one dessert of crumble which was an experience apart, exceptional. Coffee was lovely, full flavour. Our compliements to the chef for preparing us an outstanding meal this evening. Our waiters, Matthew and David ensured we had a lovely evening. Thank you very much. We shall definetely return. This was our first visit to the Bistro and we really...

Totally new to the area, fabulous rooms with plenty of space including mini fridge, hairdryer, table with back lit mirror , well decorated room and very comfortable beds, also very clean. Could not fault the service, always with a smile, prompt service, fabulous food we stayed for breakfast and evening meal, good range of wines to select from and top quality ingredients used. Breakfast was amazing for range and selection and perfect cooking of the food. It was truly a treat to stay and also to eat there. Brilliant place for the location to tour the area and a nice selection of pubs in the local village. We could not fault anything and highly recommend staying and eating it was a real treat. You will not regret it. Do not hesitate to go there, also, they have the most adorable back garden to sit in. What a shame it wasn’t warm enough. Would love to go back in the summer to...
