We were hiking Hadrians wall and stayed here one night. Our tour company had mixed up our reservations for this night, telling us our original hotel booked was booked but not to us after booking 8 months in advance…. That’s being said, the tour company booked here as the replacement approx 1 week before our stay. |Upon check in the lady helping us appeared to have zero clue we had reservations… she got on the phone with the owner and after approx 5 min or so call she apologized and checked us into our rooms. We are two sisters that each had a room reservation. |The 4 hotel rooms are directly above the bar/pub. I’m new to this type of hotel but I think it’s overt common in England, especially in small villages. |We had two rooms next to each other. Neither had a bathroom attached, not their fault but definitely not something I would ever book. |Anyway, one room was huge and one was teeny tiny…. Both spotlessly clean. |The large bathroom was down the hall and shared with other guests. It was also spotlessly clean. |My sister had the huge room… it’s was mid afternoon so we decided to hang in her room with the space. After a short while (1 hour maybe ) we heard lots of commotion in the adjacent room/hallway. Since the adjacent room was mine, I went to check it out…. I unlocked my door to find a couple in my bed…they had been checked into my room!|They had a key and were a little perplexed as well…. I marched downstairs and asked what was happening here and where were my belongings. ( I only had my hat and lunch on the bed in my room- my sisters rooms was huge, so my suitcase was there). The same lady that checked me in was clearly stressed and aware a mistake had been made. She was again on the phone with the owner…. The entire customer population of the bar was staring at me and the situation…. |A young man came up and put my stuff back in the room and they switched this couple to one room over. No one offered to remake the bed, wash the sheets etc. I am sure they were laying on top of the blanket but seriously… strangers in a bed laying on pillows etc calls for a redo!|I did not say anything- what could I say that could change this situation?? Nothing from what I could tell. |The lady came up and apologized shortly after and said the owner offered us two free drinks in the bar…. I thanked her for that. We are two non drinkers, so this offer wasn’t something we would be able to use and informed her as much. |So…. After all that, I just slept in my sisters room that night. |I would never recommend this place….safety was taken lightly and that was not appreciated. Mistakes happen but how you handle them says a...

Not the 1st time I had been to the Boathouse, but was the 1st time I had eaten there. The 2 steak pies 🥧 along with 2 pints of a beer called Jack the devil were very nice indeed. Jack the devil was chosen simply because every time somebody bought a pint 3 pence was donated to the RNLI.

Who along with the Mountain rescue are just amazing. Because they are not like the Police, Fire brigade or the Ambulance crews. Who are fully paid up professionals the Mountain rescue and the Lifeboat crews are volunteers.

Anyway back to the pub the staff were just brilliant, I arrived at the Boathouse pub about 11.00 and the barman was jet washing the ground outside the pub I asked him what time they opened and he said they were already open.

The barmaid poured my drink and was also very pleasant. I personally think she did very well because even though there was only about 3 or 4 people in the pub she always seemed to be busy.

There was a small plaque on the wall next to the bar commemorating a man who worked at the Boathouse it said that "He was probably the best barman in the world".

It reminded me of a story about a barman called Will Ritson who worked in a pub in a place called Wasdale in the Lake District way back in the old days. When he heard that a group of climbers were going to attempt 1 of the cliffs in Wasdale. He is reported to have said - "Nobbut a fleeing thing could get up theer".

Mind you he exaggerated stories of their adventures afterwards an earned himself the title of "The biggest liar in the world". The barmaid seemed...

We love this place and always plan a stop here when we are up this way. Probably the best pub in the world!!. Handy for the trains doesn't come into it, as the pub is literally right next to the railway station and its grade 2 listed elevated signal box. Bewildering array of real ales on the bar, each one in tip top condition. Thai food is also served but we were only here for the beer and we were not disappointed.

Amazing selection of handpulled beers and ciders! Have been going to this pub for over 18 years. The beer selection changes regularly, so you can never get bored. I was soooooo happy to call in today to find Jarl on offer. Only meant to have a half......but since it was my birthday a couple of pints slipped down nicely!!!

GORGEOUS pub next to the station, and near the river. Has some cute benches and seats outside with a cover ftom the rain and string lights. Has good local pints and a nice bowl of chips as well. The pub is also dog friendly. It's the perfect place to go after having a lovely walk along the Tyne
