A friend and myself went here with our two dogs so decided to eat outside, the place was filthy, there are little cubicles outside that mustn’t have been cleaned in weeks, covered in cobwebs and filthy floors, windows you could hardly see through so we thought we’d eat inside. I ordered qtr pounder with chips and my friend ordered the all day breakfast. The burger was one of those cheap burgers, tasted horrible, in an extremely dry bun, the chips were WELL overcooked the only fresh thing about it was the tomato and lettuce which I don’t like. I left the burger bun, ate half the beefburger, and the dogs got the rest. My friends meal also was well overdone, you could hardly put a knife through the bacon, the mushrooms were black and you couldn’t put a knife through the toast, the only redeeming thing was the egg, her dog got the pasty coloured sausage and promptly vomitted. I must say, the 2 young men at the bar were wonderful, so polite, and nothing was too much trouble. Good for those young men, that’s the only pleasant thing about our visit. I wish I had...

Large group of us so knew there would be a wait. Not great vegetarian menu but went for cheese ploughman's salad. Not cheap next to what others were paying for huge plates full so was expecting a lovely spread. What came was a pile of grated cheese, half a par-baked baguette, small salad, small amount of basic pickle, a few mini pickle onions and a rotten apple cut into quarters. No coleslaw. the apple was brown and squidgy and would have been clear to the kitchen staff that it was past its best. Real let down. The other people with me were very happy with their selections btw but my food was disappointing on so many levels.

Servers were, sorry to say, mainly grumpy looking young people who looked like they would rather be anywhere else. We had a few issues with service which were eventually solved but the servers had no idea who had ordered food at which table when they brought it out and so there was a lot of confusion. ...

Been here for the last few days for meals and a drink, the food is cooked from fresh 😋 I have had chicken curry, quiche and a Sunday dinner, all of which where outstanding the flavour of the curry was top notch nice and spicy not too hot in flavour, the 3 cheese quiche was fluffy, pastry was melt in the mouth. Sunday dinner well woth the money plenty of meat, veg, mash, roast potatoes ( done in dripping) and gravy (also 😋 ). The prices are not expensive at all. Staff where polite, friendly and helpful also the Chef 👨‍🍳 a lovely man had a good chat with him while he was on a break. Highly recommend The Fox and Hounds 5* and above. There is options of Early Bird and Senior menus also vegetarian options recomend very highly the Cauliflower Cheese only on menu for Sunday dinner though, would be great for a main meal on the daily menu if...

Sleepy little friendly pub in Wylam. Was visiting a friends in Hagg Bank and we had a stroll along the wagon way into Wylam. Seeing the sheltered bits outside the Fox and Hounds we decided it was a great spot to stop for lunch. They even had menus on the wall of the hut. I opted for gammon, egg and chips, my friend got the corned beef and potato pie with chips. Both were substantial, and homemade. I tried a chip dipped in my friends pot of beach and it was the real deal. My friend was raving about the pie crust. My gammon and eggs was huge and cooked to perfection. If you are having a wander in the Tyne Valley I would urge you to check out this place for lunch. Tbh I can't stop wondering how good their Sunday lunches are. Would recommend

choice of meal- mince and dumplings with mashed potato , and a steak and ale pie ( in a dish) with a filo pastry topping. Big portions and very reasonable prices. Was disappointing however. More gravy than steak in the pie. Very salty due to gravy being thickened up with gravy salt. Vegetables tasteless. Couldn't eat the pastry lid as it just fell to pieces on touch. Dumpling very poor with unusual taste and texture. Overall, this pub isn't going to win any awards for its cooking. The service from the barperson was good and there were several customers with dogs so testifying to previous posts about being dog friendly.

Visited after playing golf at Ryton but the clubhouse was closed. A 2 minute drive from the golf course, but parking was a bit of an issue. They were getting work done and the car park was closed. The barmaid was friendly and attentive. I ordered a pint of Stella and mushroom soup with a ham salad sandwich. It was delicious. Service was quick. It was quite empty at the time though. They have nice pods outside where you can sit in privacy. Highly recommended from my experience.
