A marvelous lunch at Boo Koos, Helston!
A very clean and traditional American themed, storefront restaurant along the south coast of Cornwall. The decorations truly do immerse you into the American culture. A rather small restaurant however, very quaint for its size. We highly recommend booking in advance to avoid any disappointment as it is likely that walk-in seating may not be available.
Particularly recommended for families or couples, the menus boast enormous burgers, hot dogs, blended milkshakes and an almighty range of sides and fries; stereotypical of American food! We found the 'make your own milkshakes' intriguing and decided to give it a go - certainly no regrets there! A fantastic blend of bubblegum, raspberry sauces with ice cream and battenberg otherwise known as 'The Queen's Tea' was one of the richest and perhaps best milkshakes I have ever had. Alcoholic beverages are also available with margaritas promised to be "colder than your ex's heart". The restaurant also offers the opportunity to win a "I Fought The Mighty Boo" T Shirt when you order a burger from the 'Mighty Boo' menu; this consisting of an astounding 18oz seasoned prime steak patty served in a toasted, buttered brioche on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce, 4 slices of beef tomato, sliced pickles and finely chopped red onion.
Waiters and waitresses were always happy and smiley and a delight to meet.
Parking is available, either on the main road (if you are lucky) or, a short walk away in a town car park.

Quite Tasty. Yummy burgers. Always open long hrs very conveniantly located.
MINUS: Very very Expensive. very overrated. Average food fof what you have to pay for and the smallest of items costs a bomb. Dismal non existant welcome . Burgers are good but tiny. The bun poor quality the burgers are packed with so much sauce and chilly you cant taste the meat they rely on that to pump it out I suppose. As portions are tiny you have to pay more if you want to size up a decent size.
Staff need better training. They dont smile say hello just chat amongst themselves and very slow. even when shop is empty. No general knowledge poor comunication. Dropped in standards portion size and quality unfortunately.
Bottom line; If it was a cheap mcdonalds you would get a warmer better welcome and smile. So disapointed . Maybe its because the staff are not trained? It can be extremely Indifferent bordering on rude. But hey its a casual diner with a massive ego hefty bill for the smallest thing. So you expect a bit more for your money. Milkshakes are nice . Lots of choice. I tend to ignor bad stuff but found myself unable to compliment could do with an improvment. Steps into the place and yne way its designed best to avoid if disabled. Cant fit wheelchairs or scooters. Or prams or anything would struggle but that...
Read moreBoo Koos was recommended to me and so I thought I'd try it out. The first time I went it was full so I came back another time, eager to try what is evidently a favourite among the locals. First impressions are spectacular, the atmosphere is almost enchanting with all kinds of references to American culture and pop culture as well. The waitress who served us was absolutely lovely, friendly and only served to heighten the atmosphere due to her American accent and heritage.
The portions are huge here - testament to the outright American-ness of the establishment. I certainly couldn't finish mine and it wasn't even the largest size available. I will be honest, the spices weren't quite my cup of tea but I can't knock it for that, it was still a filling and enjoyable meal. One thing which stood out to me was the large range of shakes on the menu; I didn't try one unfortunately but they all sounded absolutely delicious. Instead I ordered some of the American imported drinks which was a lovely added touch: Boo Koos really goes above and beyond the call of duty to provide an authentic American experience.
I would absolutely recommend Boo Koos if you're looking for a quality burger in Cornwall, it's probably worth the drive from almost anywhere...
