A Hidden Gem for Tea Lovers in Ampthill
Rating: 4.5/5
Our family recently had the pleasure of visiting the charming vintage tea room, Cakestand and Crumb, located in the picturesque town of Ampthill. Run by the delightful duo of Hannah and her mum Michelle, this quaint establishment offers a lovely setting for afternoon tea.
As visitors from abroad, we were unaware of the 24-hour notice requirement for afternoon tea reservations, especially when catering to dietary restrictions like gluten-free options. Nevertheless, we opted for tea and cake, which turned out to be a delightful experience. Cakestand and Crumb boasts an extensive selection of teas, accompanied by a mouthwatering array of cakes, scones, and, to our delight, gluten-free options.
During our visit, the weather was perfect for enjoying the outdoor terrace, where we savored our tea and cake in the warm sun. The tea room is tucked away from the bustling town center, accessible through a small gate on Church Street, making it a hidden gem in Ampthill.
Ampthill itself is a charming town worth visiting, and Cakestand and Crumb provides the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon tea or simply indulging in some delicious cakes. We highly recommend this delightful vintage tea room for a memorable and...
Read moreAfter some fantastic afternoon teas and take away cakes from the shop I reached out to the team about our wedding cake and evening treats for guests. Hannah was amazing throughout, she was super helpful and accommodated all our requests and gave us loads of options on flavours and decorating and accommodated a special bake for vegan and gluten free guests, as well as providing much needed cake boards. Hannah created a beautiful main wedding cake which was delicious! She also made an extra birthday cake for the morning after the wedding and an absolute mountain of assorted tray bakes which were used in our evening buffet. Cannot tell you how many positive comments there were! People went absolutely mad for the tray bakes - the millionaires shortbread disappeared in minutes, we didn’t even have time to get any photos of the baked out before they were all tucked into by grateful guests! Even our neighbours were talking about the bakes the next day! We will 100% be returning for any cake related catering needs going forward! Would recommend you try some of Hannah’s cake either in the shop or directly as it’ll...
Read moreMy husband and I were out near Ampthill this afternoon, we had missed lunch and were looking for somewhere to stop off for a cuppa and a sandwich. We had already stopped in at the nearby Flying Horse pub but they only offered a full dining menu. I googled nearby places for a cup of tea and up this popped. We found it easily and were very pleased with our discovery. We had a pot of proper leaf tea with beautiful little china cups and saucers and a little tea strainer. We both ordered sandwiches, his was honeyroast ham with Mustard, mine egg mayo with watercress. Both arrived promptly with salad garnishes and tortilla crisps too. There were two groups of ladies all having afternoon tea which looked amazing! We hadn't prebooked so weren't able to indulge today. However, we will most certainly be back. The service was friendly and seeing as it was close to closing time we weren't rushed at all. We are from Milton Keynes but will definitely be returning for a full...
