My recent experience at White Hart in Ampthill was unfortunately marred by extremely impolite and discourteous service from the bar staff. This was quite disappointing and has led me to the decision that I will not be returning to that pub ever again. Yesterday evening, after work on Thursday, February 28th, at approximately 7 o'clock, an unpleasant incident occurred when I popped in to the pub with my laptop after work intending to complete some work. I had a couple of drinks, then with the establishment becoming increasingly crowded, I approached the bar to order another, politely explaining that I felt I was occupying excessive space at my current table and inquiring about the availability of a smaller table equipped with a power outlet (as noone had bothered to come up to me and say anything about the situation). The response I received from the individual behind the bar, a rather unpleasant individual, was far from welcoming. With a dismissive tone, he replied, âYeah, I know,â indicating that he was aware of the situation but was not willing to assist, and simply said they were fully booked. I packed up my belongings and told him to forget about the drink. Although a nicer young woman approached me and provided a more reasonable response as I was gathering my things, the initial encounter had already left a negative impression on me. Considering the numerous times Iâve dined at that establishment, I can only recall enjoying a satisfactory meal on a single occasion. They know how to cook a roast dinner. I do too, but I donât charge ÂŁ20 for it. Iâll never forget the time some pretentious person corrected my pronunciation of âMilaneseââthen the food was burnt!...

Secondly we were not told that the noise from the pub downstairs was going to be heard from our room until 01h00 in the morning. When we made the booking we were asked if we have ever been there before when we responded saying "No" this would have been the perfect time to have mentioned this. On checking in when we asked about parking and if we were in a quiet room, all of this was explained. Then when we wanted to cancel we were faced with having to pay the full amount as we didn't cancel 2 days prior, even though this was not possible as we made the booking the same morning we wanted to check in. Faced with losing £124 pounds we decided to stay. The manager did his best to try and sort out things for us but his hands were tied by the actual hotel. We were fortunate that during the hour trying to sort all of this out there was a cancellation on the second floor which we gladly took.
The room was freshly refurbished. Breakfast was good. For the price though I was expecting more and this was...

We've moved rooms once already as there was a sign outside the window of our first room that was creaking in the wind.... Ok, the wind obviously isn't the hotel's fault, but not putting some WD40 on their sign is their fault! When I asked if there was another room....the girl serving us looked like she'd been asked the same thing a hundred times!
We've just been out for dinner, got back at 23:30 and the music is still blaring really loudly below us as I write this. We're now in room 4, the executive room, and the noise is ridiculous. Not sure if it's a wedding in the function room, or just the bar below but either way it's too loud to sleep until it stops which i think is 1am so we have a while to wait yet!
The rooms are nice, so it's a shame sleep is not really possible! Parking is also a nightmare in Ampthill... Again, obviously not the hotel's fault but worth considering when booking.
I certainly wouldn't book here again! I'll just be here, waiting for the music to go off so I can...
