I’m really hesitant to give this place 3 stars because I want to love it, and I understand what it’s like behind the scenes at a café. But after visiting four times—three of which were disappointing—I don’t think I’ll be returning.

The service is very slow. While others around us were being served and receiving their food, we hadn’t even been acknowledged. Maybe it’s just bad luck, but we were polite and clearly ready to order, so I’m not sure why. Drinks also take a long time—staff always apologise (they are generally very friendly), but waiting 20 minutes for a drink is frustrating.

The food itself tastes fine, no complaints there. However, on my last visit, I ordered a cake that was forgotten. After waiting in line at the till to get someone’s attention, I reminded them, and they mentioned it needed to be heated due to the caramel topping—no problem, but of course, it took even longer. When it finally arrived, the top was burnt (not just browned, but charred), and the cake itself was barely lukewarm. It tasted nice, but after a few bites, I noticed a hair in it. The staff apologised and didn’t charge me, which I appreciated, but it was still disappointing.

It’s a shame because the café has a great atmosphere and is clearly popular, but the slow service, forgotten orders, and little mistakes—like a hair in my food—make it an unreliable spot for a quick coffee or lunch.

I wish I could give my usual 5 stars, but unfortunately,...

Bitterly disappointed with a visit here. I ordered an omelette with black pudding added, an experience I was looking forward too. I also ordered a coffee for myself and my son which we practically finished by the time my food arrived,my son had decided to sit this one out, on reflection,he was fortunate. The omelette eventually arrived with a small pool of uncooked egg on top, garnished with a piece of egg shell, lovely. I returned the meal and cancelled the meal altogether. What would I have done in this situation? Well apologies certainly, from a junior staff member? No.its a management issue. I would have also as a goodwill gesture, offered the drinks on the house. No I'm no freeloader, I was in business a long time and unhappy patrons very rarely return or...

Arrived at lunchtime. The place was almost empty; only four other customers After politely interruptinging the conversation taking place between the two memebers of staff at the counter we were asked to take a table and a menu would be brought to us. The place was so cold that we had to keep our coats on. The lighting was very poor and the place was drab and run down. After waiting for twenty minutes, getting colder by the minute, and still no menu we decided to leave and find a more welcoming place to eat. As we passed the counter the two staff members were still heavily engaged in conversation. In fact I don't even think they noticed we were leaving. Clearly customers are an...

We visited here whilst staying just outside of Penrith, deciding to grab a bite to eat when seeing all the scones in the window. I was blown away by the shear amount of cakes to choose from, some common ones & others that you don’t hear off elsewhere. We however chose to go for a traditional & vegetarian haggis with poached eggs on sourdough bread. Both tasted lovely, definitely how I remember haggis, & the vegetarian one being my first tine having it was also nice, but I do prefer the traditional. The portions where massive, & definitely filled us up, so we didn’t go for cake.

Called in here on way home from weekend break. Staff were lovely, very friendly. Food was really good, had a bit of a wait, but acceptable as it's freshly made and comes to table piping hot, on hot plates, just the way I love it. Tea was served in a teapot with a beautiful china cup and saucer. We also brought home their lovely scones. Wish we stayed closer, we'd never be away from place.

I absolutely loved it and while here I got, for the first time a haggis omlette (see pics). It was excellent and I plan to do it at home too. The atmosphere was nice but a bit dark for me taste - lights in the back side of the store were really dim. Also, it sits across a LOVELY bookstore where you could grab a book before heading here for coffee and a scone :)..
