Chilled Red — Restaurant in England

We booked an evening meal for Wednesday 19th August and in the morning everything was fine and set. They took a £20.00 deposit which is fine, although has never happened to me before, but they didnt explain it couldnt be refunded if it as canceled for what ever reason. During the day my wife fell ill (physically sick) and there was no way she could sit and enjoy the meal. I phoned and phoned and finally got through at 5.30. I explained the situation and said I would have to cancel. The guy who answered said no worries ill make a note thanks for letting us know. I asked if the £20.00 could be refunded and he chuckled at me and said no your too late. We have been using chilled reds since 2013 everytime we have been to Swanage and always had a great meal. This however has given me a sour experience and I'm not interested anymore. Next time we will find somewhere different and try a new experience....

Me and my fiancé tried to get in to this restaurant last year (april) with no luck of anyone answering the phone and the restaurant looking closed every time we walked past it. This year (April 2023) we managed to figure out that the restaurant is open from 6pm on I think a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (could be wrong). Anyway, we booked in and the food was quite frankly incredible. Seriously amazing with excellent service. Everyone was really friendly and we felt very welcomed. The food was also really well priced. I read some reviews about the interior being cold and having no ambience, this I agree with which I why I am knocking one star off. Overall, I would definitely recommend this...

I found the dining experience in Swanage to be relatively poor - terrible wines (think a wholesaler has Swanage in a chokehold! May be Majestic, God help us). Chilled Red stood out as markedly better and enjoyable. Lovely staff, reasonable menu, the four of us had a wide selection from the menu and we were all satisfied. It was a little short on welcoming decor so maybe once the Covid perils are behind us someone will make it a little warmer on appearance. The competition is not strong so it should be easy to really shine! If I return to Swanage then I will be back to Chilled Red. Good...
