Coffee#1 Chipping Sodbury — Restaurant in England

We came to the café at around 9:45am today during a particularly busy brunch period with only two staff on. The two baristas were working hard.

However, we ordered some food, given a number and told the food would be brought to our table. We'd seated ourselves at the back of the café. After a little wait, we were approached by a fellow customer who told us that one of the baristas had been calling our number. We thought this odd given that we'd been told the food would be brought over.

Regardless, I walked over to the counter to collect and, as I did, one of the baristas remarked to his colleague that, "We'd be getting cold porridge." This seemed a sarcastic and unprofessional comment to make in front of a long line of customers. When I challenged him that we'd been told the food would be brought to our table, he responded that he'd "called us three times". This comment, and the tone in which it was made (again, in front of the queue of customers), was unappreciated given that, again, we were told the food would be brought over and we wouldn't have heard the call from our table. No apology was forthcoming.

We appreciate it was busy and the café appeared understaffed, but the public comment about cold porridge, and response, was completely unprofessional.

We really love the feel and atmosphere in this place but just can’t give it 5 stars as it is routinely very very slow to get served. I have read other reviews and see that it is usual and is not at particular times of day. The two staff on this morning (Sunday) were working hard and were friendly but 2 people just isn’t enough. This has been our experience a few times on different days and at different times of day. Having said that, when we are eventually served the coffee is good and the giant toasted tea cakes a real favourite of ours. Just get 1-2 more staff members on each shift and it would be 5 stars.

Return 8 months later and if anything it’s worse! Reduced to 2 stars as a busy Friday lunchtime and only 2 staff on (both behind counter meaning main area was a mess of tables covered in dirty cups and plates) and the wait was just ridiculous. I can’t understand how this place takes many times longer than any other coffee place I have EVER...

Really disappointed experience today unfortunately… waiting time to be served was rather long - even tho the place wasn’t busy and queue was short so can’t understand why?! 4 people working behind the counter…. It was a good selection of cakes - however- if you look closer to the photo attached you will see clearly that every label was in a wrong place. We’ve ordered Lotus Biscoff cheesecake- as per label in the exposition window and unfortunately- it was salted caramel cheesecake which was rather tasteless and not what we ordered… Coffee was good. We also ordered a cup of tea which was served in a dirty cup.. I went to wash it in the bathroom sink… I was waiting a long time for bottles with drinking water to be refilled as well… The atmosphere was just okay- no music and no privacy. All we could hear was people’s conversations, loud beeping noises and crockery being tossed all the time by the staff behind...
