I would like to review the Royal oak on its food but I didn't get the chance. We arrived at The Royal Oak at 1.40.pm on a Saturday. We bought 2 drinks and picked up the lunch menu and the specials menu and asked if the special, which was cottage pie, was still avaliable. The barman (tall man with glasses) replied yes it was. We then went to find a table and look at the menu's. After 5 mins I returned to the bar to order some food. There was a couple in front of me being served with coffee's. As they were served one of them picked up a menu and before he could ask anything the barman very abruptly and in a loud voice said " we ain't taking more food orders, we have a large party turned up and we can't do anymore!!!!!" They both stared at him with what I could only describe as a look of terror as though they had just been told off by a victorian school teacher. I then said to the barman that it would have been nice to have been told earlier when we asked about the specials. To which he looked at me and went into the courtyard for a cigarette. I know you can't judge the pub on one person but it was very uncomfortable. All he had to do was say "Im very sorry but we are extremely busy in the kitchen and can't take any more orders" in a calm manner. If you work in the hospitality industry you need to be able to communicate better with people. Hopefully it was a one off. We will try there again and...
Read moreBooked for 15, for a special birthday and the day was spoiled from the time we arrived until we left. We'd pre ordered our meals and the menu changed so had to reorder. When the meals arrived they arrived with meat and potatoes, then you put your own veg and gravy on. We asked for more carrots and was told we've given you more than we usually do for 8 people, at which I replied there's 11 of us having roast not 8. She didn't come back so we asked a lovely young girl. Then we had the chef as she kept telling me, come out having a go, which then started me off as clearly someone can't do the math!! We paid, left and went to Tesco for dessert, which was delicious. Wouldn't recommend. We'll go to the...
Read moreBooked a table only a few hours prior to visiting online. They responded quickly and confirmed our dog was welcome.
We arrived at three and they showed us our table in the bar. Table was fine as I think dogs are probably not allowed in the restaurant section? All I’d say is, the table could have been laid up a bit ‘nicer’ and there wasn’t much atmosphere as it was a bit of an odd time and so probably the lunchtime clients had either left or were in the restaurant section. Good portion size for the meat and vegetables but probably could have had more potatoes. Not sure if Yorkshire puddings were homemade. Overall - yes I’d go again, as it’s local and...
