Been here a few times, the food is ok but I must say that the service by one particular server is abysmal and we've been made to feel unwelcome on most of our visits by him.
As far as I understand, the current rules (as of 26/9/20) on wearing a facemask inside restaurants and coffee shop outlets only apply if you're taking food away with you and not eating in. We made it clear to the shop assistant (could be the manager perhaps?) as we entered that we'd like to eat in hence the reason we were not wearing masks; however, he was insistent we wear them and couldn't be inside without one on. There weren't any free tables downstairs so we asked if there's any seating available upstairs (the dining area is quite large on the first floor), again the same response 'you need to wear a mask to be inside' without bothering to answer our question, meanwhile diners are eating away without face coverings. At this point getting impatient we asked to sit outside (not our first choice as it was a particularly cold day but the tables were free and we were feeling famished after a long ride), and that he could take our order from our table (problem solved we thought). Not surprised when we received the same lazy response. At this point, annoyed and feeling ignored, we decided to leave.
On previous occasions, we've been asked by the same individual if we're taking food away with us (pre-facemask days), even though there's been free tables inside, which has always seemed a bit of an odd enquiry to our group when we're dressed in cycling gear and have removed helmets/gloves etc as we've entered (taking a breakfast away to eat on our bikes doesn't seem very appealing to us). We get the impression that we're not particularly welcome inside.
Not going to be visiting again or recommending to friends/family.
(Silver lining is that we found a cafe just around the corner which served both excellent food...
Read moreStaff were friendly and service was with a smile which is always a bonus. Dogs are also welcome! Stopped here for an early lunch which consisted of a baguette with beef and onion and a coffee. The coffee was very good and although the baguette was very fresh I thought it was a little tasteless and on the smaller side of quantity for the price. I wouldn't, however, let this put me off going back. The atmosphere was clean and pleasant, light and with a good amount of seating (not to close together). There is also an upstairs area that I didn't go to! The menu wasn't large but certainly adequate offering a good overall choice of snacks, cakes, teas and coffees of course. Some cakes are displayed at the front counter and all looked fresh and inviting. To sum up I would say a tad expensive for the food I had but pretty...
Read moreExcellent breakfast, something of a different take on a cooked breakfast. a Spanish bread similar to ciabatta with two fried eggs on one half and sausages, bacon, tomato on the other half (black pudding was also if you wanted it). Cooked in olive oil and served with herbs, a very Mediterranean flavour of a cooked breakfast. Had this with an earl grey, and later had a flat white which is up there with the best flat whites I have had when out (and I am pretty picky). Liked it so much I had a second off the back of the first ! Coffee from cafes is often much too bitter and flat whites just glorified latte, not so here, this was just right. Great cafe all in all thank you for...
