Dreadful food. No atmosphere. Rude service.
Came in here for dinner/tea during a short break because of the great reviews but my word, what a shock to the system.
Initially it looks good. Nice enough decor and quite cosy. Then you scratch the surface...
Upon asking if we should go to the main dining area for food we were told, 'no, just sit over there' and pointed towards the tables in the bar area. No menus were offered, and the lady was very dismissive.
We were then passed some menus by another table who had a look of resignation on their face as if they understood the issue. The menus were grubby to say the least, several stains over them. Fair enough, nothing we haven't seen before so we decided to order. The lady at the bar had just knocked a drink over by mistake, drenching the bar and was clearly in a mood because of it as she was very surly and rude when approached.
We managed to order some drinks, two pies with mash and winter greens and an American burger - but no salad on the burger. Hopefully the food is better than the service! As you can see from the photos, it wasn't. The burger was the worst thing I've seen served to me in living memory. The pies were bang average. A tiny portion of mash in comparison to the pie and the winter greens was a tiny portion of something resembling shredded cabbage. The pie was chicken and leek and for me, it wasn't great at all. I barely ate half. We asked for a refund on the burger and were told we should have said something as she would have replaced it. Then followed that statement by saying 'that's not the chefs cooking!'. Not sure whose cooking it is but you served it to us. Maybe check the kitchen to see who is masquerading as a chef in there!? Upon refunding us, she confirmed that some young lad had cooked the burger and apologised as the chef wasn't in. So they're leaving the cooking to a young lad! Splendid. Given he can't cook a burger - which incidentally should have also had cheese and bacon but she clearly got that wrong - there's little hope for any fresh food coming out.
I'd avoid this place at all costs....
Read moreReal mixed bag. Pros - dining room was lovely. Sunday roast pork was very good as were the roast veg. Puddings were great. Some staff were nice - lady wearing a light jacket was excellent. Cons - there was very mixed service. When I arrived for our booked table a very rude older lady spoke to me and before I'd finished my sentence interrupted me to go and serve some other diners. Continued to be very curt when taking our order to the point I asked her if I should order at the bar because she'd made me felt like I'd done the wrong thing. Ordered pints of soft drinks - all 5 came as halves. When the food came my "pink" beef was anything but. A really miserly portion of an overcooked cheap cut - properly disappointing for 20 quid. The Yorkshire puddings (which we'd ordered extra of) were virtually flat - every other table had huge ones that were like a fez - sad lack of QC at the pass. I make way better for my own roasts at home.
Would we return? Maybe. I'm not that keen but other members of our group quite liked it. Puds were...
Read moreUnfortunately had a really poor experience here - we had seen signs of this on Tripadvisor before visiting but decided to give it a go. Service was extremely slow, both for food and drinks (starters took an hour to arrive - update: the venue is saying it was 32 minutes but the waitress literally apologised for starters taking an hour when she brought it and we know how long we waited / wondering if ours went to another table as she said 7 tables had ordered prawns at the same time). It would have been nice to be offered bread whilst waiting for the starters / as an apology for the delay. The food itself was also poor - it didn’t taste nice and we resent paying an extra fiver to have vegetables with our main meal at dinner time (especially when mains are already £20-25 each). Overall the meal was money down the drain and we won’t...
