Probably will not have the chance to visit again but still want to leave a review and share our positive experience - we were visiting the area and wanted to go to the Lyme park but it was closed due to capacity!! After travelling all the way down here, we needed a place (with WiFi) to sit down, fill empty stomaches and change plans. We surely not look like locals and act like locals ( choose a table themselves and order at the counter etc etc) but the owner still kindly showed us to a table and provided table service. Food was fulfilling and the owner also agreed for us to leave our car parked in front of their premises so we can go hiking nearby. A lot visitors were hikers and were also with dogs, there are dog water bowls in and outside the pub, and a lady who just finished her walk kindly told us a good path nearby. We are grateful for all the help and kindness we received today...
Read moreIt's a lovely looking pub with a good selection of real ales but it was a bit like American werewolf in London when we walked in..we were proper stared at and the lady serving wasn't really very friendly. We had the steak and ale pie, chips and beans and at £17 each I thought it was very pricey but fortunately the pie was tasty. So in effect we had pie n chips, a coke, a lemonade and it was over 40 quid for 2 people. You could go to The Bridge in Prestbury for a 2 course Sunday lunch for £22...and that's posh. Read moreFrom the outside it looks a lot bigger, then inside it's small, and given its so small you'd expect some atmosphere... Felt like I'd fallen into a time warp, there was a guy at the bar in a waist coat and dickie bow for no apparent reason.
The barmaid had the personality of a rock, but less talkative, couldn't have been less interested if she tried. The Guinness was overflowing and badly poured. 2 Guinness 1diet coke 2packs of crisps 17.60 Manchester prices out...
