Used to regularly visit Darley Abbey Wines but it’s not the same anymore.
Table service-only doesn’t work here as staff don’t know which tables have been served, so you’re sat waiting and trying to catch someone’s attention. When you’re finally served, drinks take a long time to arrive (35 minutes for 3 beers).
The servers process orders on a tablet, so it would be much more efficient to have a button on each table to call for service, or the ability to place orders on an app.
Booked a table on another occasion and got seated next to the entrance. Very cold and completely ignored by the servers as it’s the furthest you can get from the main area. Eventually asked if we could move into the main area and was told there were no tables. Minutes afterwards, we overheard another couple as they arrived with no booking and they immediately got seated in the main area. Mentioned this to a member of staff who advised they’d keep an eye out for a table and let us know. They didn’t return even to take the next drinks order, so we left and went to Lorentes and The Lamp House next door. They have become our...
Read moreThe best place to go in Derby by a mile. I've been a few times now and held off reviewing it because I wanted to make sure the first experience wasn't a one off. It was not.
This is a chilled 'grown-ups' bar where you can go and have a good chat over some quality drinks. The owners are very knowledgeable about wines and although I haven't done one of their wine tastings (which I will be doing in the future) they are always friendly and helpful when it comes to choosing your wine - really good for helping with new wine choices that you might not have heard or thought of.
The surroundings are warm and cosy with lots of interesting features. They've made a real effort to make it a place with an atmosphere. From the furniture to the lighting and all the little details in-between, everything is perfect.
We live in Kilburn (a few miles up the A38), and although we have some awesome places to drink around us, we quite often make the journey to go and enjoy this wonderful place.
If you're looking for somewhere different to your usual 'bar' this is the one. I cannot recommend this...
Read moreWe were a little disappointed with the whole experience. We booked a table weeks ago, when we arrived we were allocated 2 seats against a wall with a very small shelf, as we were going to eat I asked for a table, we were told that the tables were reserved for 4 plus people. After we were seated and our food ordered more people arrived and a number of tables became occupied by couples and not always 4 plus people. The entertainment was, in our opinion poor and the singer out of tune. We had waited 2 years to spend a Christmas gift but really did feel let down. It was expensive, we didn't have enough table room for food and drinks and the music was poor. We had heard such great things about the wine bar and we will give it another go, just hoping things will be...
