So tonight took us to the picturesque village of darley abbey and we had a little meander down to the ode mills. Walked over Walters walkway as there is no vehicle access from the darley side of the river and headed over to lorentes. Tell ya what pal the places were buzzing, there was a wedding on at one of the joints, then looked like a posh wine bar was rammed with folk sampling a few of darley abbeys finest! We got given a lovely table for 5 seated outside next to the beautiful river derwent it really is such a devine, beautiful, idyllic spot! You obviously need the weather to make the most of these joints and with how it has been recently these places will be rolling the ode pennies into the coffers! Checked the ode menu and went with 3 dishes as this place is a tapas restaurant. Went with the chicken skewers, spainish omelette and fried bread with black pudding and 2 fried eggs! My god that bread with the eggs and pudding was devine i can definitely recommend that one pal and the ode omelette was a goodun the sauce was just va va voom 👌 The ode chicken skewer was nice, but very stinky, came with a plate full of onions and my mouth now tastes like a toilet brush! Speaking of loos I went to use the ode lavatory which are located inside the restaurant and up the stairs. Tell ya what pal trap 1 was in a right state, but we will leave that one there, luckily trap 2 was pristine so I dropped the ode kids off and went about my business! All in all a lovely evening with the monks and the ode flora and fauna make this place so idyllic, keep up the good work...
Read moreDelighful Sunday afternoon lunch here at Lorentes last weekend. Arrived early with my eldest son whist we waited for my husband and younger son as they were shopping in nearby Derby; so Joe and I hit the cocktails list. Sangia Sabor was a hit . . . quote literally as ended up being the strongest item on the menu ! SHOCK I picked that one . . .LOL
We had had a few nibbles to tide us over until the others arrived as the food looked so good we simply couldn't wait to order something !
The traditional tortilla (room temp) was absolutely spot on and a real taste of Spain on a hot sunny afternoon with drinks by the waters edge.
We then tried as much as our tummies could manage. The Albondigas were delicious as was the Chorizo and the portions were suprisingly larger than expected and excellent value.
We'll definitely be back, as we need to work our way through the menu as so many things we want to try and didn't have room; like the 48 hr pork shoulder.
Thank you for a great lazy, and boozy afternoon.
I highly recommend if you haven't already been and returning if you have;...
Read moreMe and my family have been going to lorentes since the first restaurant opened in derby, and this was the third time I have visited the darley abbey branch this time for my birthday and me and my family were incredibly disappointed. We ordered the set menu for 5, which was obviously reheated, fair enough it wouldn’t be cooked to order but at least heated to a decent temperature. All of the food was served luke warm, when we mentioned this half way through the service of food, it was told this complaint would go back to the kitchen. The rest of the food served was still luke warm, with a ‘seafood’ risotto with barley any seafood in and under seasoned. When we complained about the temperature of the food again, we received an apology from the chef and a free plate of churos for 6 people before being lumped with a £170 bill, paying £125 for barely enjoyable luke warm food. Do not recommend especially on a barely half full restaurant on a...
