Dec 2019 review. We stopped in again with family for Sunday lunch the weekend after Christmas. Once we figured out what everyone wanted we had to go to the bar to order, no table service there. Unfortunately they only had turkey on for the roast dinner, but they were very accommodating with substituting a steak. We had a mixed array of pies and steaks and roast dinners, the overall consensus was that a lot of the food tasted a bit dry and rubbery, most likely microwaved or our of a bag. After dinner some of us decided to have dessert, they were out of vanilla ice cream so we had to go with chocolate for our chocolate cheesecake. The cheesecake was nothing to write home about, it was kind of warm which really surprised us as it is typically served fresh from the refrigerator. Others decided on the sticky toffee pudding and said that is was cold and they were expecting it to be much hotter. All in all I would say this wasn't our best experience at this pub as far as the food is concearned. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but the food was rather slow coming out and not all at the same time. The bathrooms were not in the best shape and I was informed the ladies was completely out of toilet roll. The gents just had paper napkins of some kind. ***old 5 star review from 2017*** We went here for lunch with family and even though they had the main dining area fully reserved, we were seated fairly fast over near the bar, the tables were pretty small and cramped but we managed. I ordered the giant Yorkshire pudding and sausage, my wife had the haddock and chips, my dad had a steak pie, and my mum had a giant Yorkshire pudding with beef. All food was top notch and everyone was thoroughly satisfied. The staff were all very polite and attentive but didn't hover. Great atmosphere, the place was empty when we arrived but buzzing by the time we left. Will be back next time we're in town.

I visited the Derwent arms yesterday for lunch with my husband and mother. I had the mixed grill, my husband had the garlic and stilton burger and my mother had the gammon all of which was really good. The pub is dog friendly which is a welcomed amenity. The car park has plenty of space for patrons which is also appreciated. The food is excellent and offers great value for money. The desserts were also excellent. We had ice cream Sundays and I had the cookie dough which was divine and I would actually call in for just this and a drink it was so good. Collectively our bill was about £70 and that was for 3 main courses, 3 desserts and 6 drinks. I shall most definitely be returning to the Derwent in the near future.

Another year and Simon still in charge.. Always a pleasure to work with great landlords I very rarely use the word pristine but this place was above and beyond... Came here to complete some work today.. high standards throughout are clear to see. The Derwent Arms is a jewel in the punch tavern crown and has to be seen to be fully appreciated... On Google there are more than one Dewent arms so not too be confused this is the one in YO17 postcode. Site offers the complete guest experience, live sports, pool, food and drink in very beautiful surroundings. Large FREE carpark but you must put your Registration in on the machine Thank you again Simon for looking after me during today's visit 👍

I can't actually give a review on the food because l didn't have any. After making a booking on-line for Sunday lunch, l turned up with my disabled mother, who took a while to get out of the car and into a wheelchair. As we went in a lady promptly told us which table we were at and that there was no Sunday lunch until September. To say l was angry is an understatement, that was why we'd come, my mum had specifically wanted one. There was no apology, nor explanation why it wasn't mentioned when booking, l'd even called a day before to check there was a disabled toilet. Apparently according to my mum and another person with us, after l'd put the wheelchair back in the car and was standing making a phone call to another pub, the lady came out and took a photo of my car, l hope this has nothing to do with the fact that l should have entered my reg no as l went in, to prevent getting a ticket. I sincerely hope that isn't the case and l don't hear anything further, because l really don't want to go anywhere near the Derwent arms again.

The following is an addition in reply to the comment made by the Derwent Arms. You're right, l did presume you were serving Sunday Lunch, but that's because it's advertised on your website site, perhaps it might be an idea to remove it until you are...

Came here a while ago and the food and service was great unfortunately this wasn't the case this time.

My partner asked for the full English and the £1.50 upgrade and go large option with extra sausages. (2 sausages instead of bacon) and he ended up with 3 bacon 2 sausages. When he pointed it out when she food came the women behind the bar said he didn't say that. When he clearly did but wasn't charged for it. Which means she did get it wrong and didn't hear him. I even heard him myself as I was sat next to the bar. Table 11.

My blt was poor. The "toast" if you can call it that was so white and not even toasted it was practically just bread straight out the packet.

There wasn't a single other table having food and it was dead so no excuse to not even get a check back. We would of complained if we did. So never got the option. There was staff in there with no uniform on going behind the bar answering the phone but there drinking. Very unprofessional. I think the chef was more worried about coming out the kitchen and talking to people behind the bar rather than cooking the food correctly.

Won't be coming back here. Such a shame as the last experience we had was way better to now. Just shows you the staff you have on with certain days let's the...
