Comedy of errors but I'm not laughing.
Seated and ordered two different gin and tonics, a full English and a bowl of soup, not rocket surgery, but this was a struggle in it's self.
Two gins brought out both the same so asked for the on I'd actually ordered, when a different server then tells us that she'll have to take one away unless we paid for their mistake. Fine I understand but at that point your stocks already affected so if it's in a customer and improving their experience or in a sink I know what I'd instruct my servers to do. Anyway foods arriving let's not worry. Not asked about extra sauces condiments or drinks. No check back at all, if they had I would have mentioned the missing grilled tomatoes from my brekkie. Girlfriends bread was not the freshest either. Came to pay the bill and in the interest of fairness and not being a silent keyboard warrior I quietly asked to speak to a manager or supervisor... A girl came to see me and I asked if she was a manager or supervisor, I was told " I'm the closest you'll get today" blimey. Then when I asked if I could have a quiet word another older lady came to speak to me because she was "technically in charge" so why am I talking to someone else first?
Mentioned that I was asked to pay for a mispour and that in every company I've worked in we'd just comp the mistake and was told that they wouldn't do that cos one of the staff could drink it. Personally wouldn't admit to breaching licensing laws to a customer who is making a complaint.
Mentioned no check back and was told, "yeah it's just we're really busy"
Asked about the lack of tomato and was told, "we ran out an hour ago, you should have been told"
Starting to get a bit knarked at this point. I said that in my 15 years of kitchen and waiting experience I have never had so many oversights in one sitting, the response was " if you want to come and teach us how it's done you can"
Nope, not my job love, could have turned a few little oversights into a good experience, but instead there was an excuse for everything and a distinct lack of care.
Will not return, will not recommend and will actively dissuade anyone who asks me
Would give zero stars if possible.
Edit: to his credit the owner did reach out very promptly to try to correct the situation, if only his staff cared as...
Read moreI've visited The Patisserie Malton a few times ... it's a small cafe*, independently run, in the center of Malton close to the Market Place. *perhaps room for 20?
The place is run day-to-day by a couple of ladies on behalf of the owner-chef. He seems lovely when I have messaged him, really keen for things to be ship-shape and focused on providing an excellent experience for customers. It's not so great when he's not there ... it sometimes feels like cafe guests are treated like they get in the way of the shop.
The menu is interesting (and very pretty!), the food is consistently lovely and the place is great for a quick coffee stop or a light bite/lunch - if you can get a table.
The offer takeaway options and outside catering. I saw some trays of amazing cakes carried past as we were in there for coffee and they look...
Read moreNice cosy place for a stop off hot drink and food on a cold rainy day, sign said ‘dogs welcome’ , food was lovely, couldn’t fault. However, the more mature lady who served us initially, showed utter contempt for our dogs through the time we were there. It’s a smallish place so obviously the dogs as well behaved as ours were will be close to people passing by including the staff. This lady made us feel unwelcome as a result. The young lady whom we paid was altogether different. We didn’t get chance to say anything as much as we wanted as the shop was filling up so we left to get out of the way. Not sure if this shop is therefore tolerant of dogs as this lady clearly wasn’t. You will know who you are & shame...
