Dollingtons Fish Bar — Restaurant in England

In town for the weekend, and drove here from Sankey based on Google reviews / fact it was one of my childhood chippers. Took 87 minutes to get served (not a typo - that's EIGHTY-SEVEN minutes!!!). I have never seen anything like the service here: decent queue outside when we got there, but expected on Good Friday / based on its rep. Very slow moving: assumed they'd run out of something, so were waiting for it to cook. After half an hour was up to shop front, so could see in - not that many people in front of us, and felt committed at that point, so said we'd stick and wait. Finally got into the shop - 8 people in front of us; took 45 minutes to serve them. Cooked to order, yes - but guys, seriously?!? Not an extensive menu, and everyone was getting, err.. fish and chips!! Slowest serving experience of my life. As for the food: flavour was good, fish of average quality, but batter not crispy & both that and the chips were super-greasy. Incredibly disappointing; would never return & people should be aware you might have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for pretty standard...

A 1 and a half hour wait on Good Friday for our first fish and chips from this chippy! It was a bit of a leap of faith, as we were only going off the reviews online. We usually go elsewhere but after being really disappointed with our usual chippy last time, decided to try here. I have to say, it really WAS worth the wait. Beautifully light crispy batter on both the haddock and cod, both chunky fluffy white fish. Perfectly cooked chips that were golden and crispy without being laden with grease. I have not been in this fish and chip shop for many years and I was made up I went. Somebody recommended it to me recently, so I called in today. The shop is very clean and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I wasn't disappointed with the food, the fish was good value for money and the portions were of a good size. The menu offers lots of choice and much of the food is made on the premises i.e pies, nuggets which more often than not will taste better than your usual packet stuff!!
