I’ve been looking forward to eating here since it opened. The food was amazing but the service was so chaotic and disorganised that it ruined the meal completely. Which is a shame, especially when they added a mandatory service charge to the bill which they quite frankly didn’t deserve a penny of. Dosa Kingdom could be one of the best restaurants on Boundary Road if they sorted out the service and poor attitude of the waiting staff.
We had to tell the waiter we hadn’t had our order taken after being seated for nearly an hour, to which the reply was “sorry I thought we had taken your order”, the small restaurant only has around 7 tables so they really should have a better idea of who’s placed an order and who hasn’t. Once that had finally been done food came out in an absolute shambles. Some of our party didn’t get the food they had ordered, some dishes were lukewarm warm when we got them and there were duplicate dishes being brought out all over the place which we kept having to send back to the kitchen. After two hours of waiting for our orders we could see the kitchen had stopped cooking. It was only then when we realised we had been forgotten and complained that they returned to the hobs to complete our order. There were tables seated after ours that were receiving food before we got ours. It was absolute chaos and felt like no-one working there had control of the situation.
No offer of apology was given and no explanation to why we received such shoddy service. We were still expected to pay full price and not offered anything to compensate for the terrible time we had that evening. The only reason Dosa Kingdom deserves two stars is because the food was so delicious. Everything else was appalling.
Such a shame, I would have loved to recommend this restaurant but unfortunately I think it needs to be avoided until they can fix all of the issues with the kitchen...
Read moreI was so excited about this place, as I am a huge Dosa fan!
Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. We order chilli paneer and medu wada to start. The paneer dish lack the indo Chinese flavour that should be there and instead tasted like Maggie chilli garlic sauce poured over paneer with undercooked peppers!! The wada was ok, albeit tiny! (I'll deal with the chutney & sambar when I cover dosa)
We then had masala dosa and rava dosa. The dosa was fine. But the potato filling was tasteless bland mash potato, no curry leaves, no channa daal, not even salt!... just turmeric! The sambar was not sambar at all, it was just a thick yellow daal with tamarind added to give a sourness, it lack all the flavours that should exist, drumstick, curry leaves, root veg etc!
The chutneys were not much better white (coconut) chutney lacked flavour, no mustard seeds, no ginger, no curry leaves, again not even salt! green (mint!) chutney.... this is a weird one, not a chutney ever served with a dosa in India and also not in the other places I have eaten in the UK not a good match with Dosa. Save it for the north India. red (tomato) chutney, this was the best of a bad bunch!
I also watched the table next to me being served pre-made packet naan breads (like clay oven bakery) so I wouldn't rate the North Indian food if they can't even make naan bread!
Overall I give it a miss again! Better to make the drive to London for a much tastier authentic experience!!
