My search for a perfect dosa took me to Dosa kingdom... And the search was satisfying.. they make the perfect dosas... Though small in size , the restaurant was packed with customers.. British were also enjoying food along with Asians .. the service is very good so as the food .. we tried 1. Masala Dosa : Perfect dosa and masala served with sambar and 2 chutneys... Sambar was ok but the chutneys were tasty... 2. Mysore masala Dosa: Perfect dosa with a little different masala .. 3. Mushroom pepper fry: This was the winner .. crunchy and super tasty... 4. Gobi Manchurian: As tasty as it can be . 5. Schezwan rice: Good 6. Mango lassi: Awesome 7. Falooda: Not good Along with South Indian dishes they also serve Indian vegetarian cuisine and Chinese cuisine. They have 2 types of Thalis too. North Indian Thai and South Indian Thali. Will try In my next outing. Food is awesome and also pocket friendly.

Amazing Authentic Indian Food in Portslade I’ve moved to the area from London and I’ve been craving dosa ever since! This place absolutely hits the spot. The dosa is tasty, fresh and super crispy and comes with dhal and sauces which all have a their own distinct flavour that complement the dish perfectly. If dosa’s aren’t your thing there is a whole menu of authentic Indian and Indo-Chinese vegetarian and vegan delights. The vegetarian Manchurian balls are amazing as is the chilli paneer. There’s dishes are on the mild side of spicy they won’t blow your head off but if you are concerned I’m sure the very friendly staff can help. I will definitely be frequenting this place often this is an absolute gem of a restaurant!

I had dinner today, taste was really good. But this one star is for the service they gave today, they CHARGED £2.50 FOR EXTRA SAMBAR AND CHUTNEY- i visited this restaurant multiple times but they never charged for extra sambar and chutney , My concern is they never mentioned in the Menu nor the waitress told us that they will charge for extra sambar ( the sambar came after finishing the dosa), after seeing the bill when my husband questioned about to this to management they told they just started charging today in the RUDE way. They will charge service charge for the poor service which we get. I ll never visit this place again its not about the £2.50, U should value your customers.

I’ve been looking forward to eating here since it opened. The food was amazing but the service was so chaotic and disorganised that it ruined the meal completely. Which is a shame, especially when they added a mandatory service charge to the bill which they quite frankly didn’t deserve a penny of. Dosa Kingdom could be one of the best restaurants on Boundary Road if they sorted out the service and poor attitude of the waiting staff.

We had to tell the waiter we hadn’t had our order taken after being seated for nearly an hour, to which the reply was “sorry I thought we had taken your order”, the small restaurant only has around 7 tables so they really should have a better idea of who’s placed an order and who hasn’t. Once that had finally been done food came out in an absolute shambles. Some of our party didn’t get the food they had ordered, some dishes were lukewarm warm when we got them and there were duplicate dishes being brought out all over the place which we kept having to send back to the kitchen. After two hours of waiting for our orders we could see the kitchen had stopped cooking. It was only then when we realised we had been forgotten and complained that they returned to the hobs to complete our order. There were tables seated after ours that were receiving food before we got ours. It was absolute chaos and felt like no-one working there had control of the situation.

No offer of apology was given and no explanation to why we received such shoddy service. We were still expected to pay full price and not offered anything to compensate for the terrible time we had that evening. The only reason Dosa Kingdom deserves two stars is because the food was so delicious. Everything else was appalling.

Such a shame, I would have loved to recommend this restaurant but unfortunately I think it needs to be avoided until they can fix all of the issues with the kitchen...

I was so excited about this place, as I am a huge Dosa fan!

Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. We order chilli paneer and medu wada to start. The paneer dish lack the indo Chinese flavour that should be there and instead tasted like Maggie chilli garlic sauce poured over paneer with undercooked peppers!! The wada was ok, albeit tiny! (I'll deal with the chutney & sambar when I cover dosa)

We then had masala dosa and rava dosa. The dosa was fine. But the potato filling was tasteless bland mash potato, no curry leaves, no channa daal, not even salt!... just turmeric! The sambar was not sambar at all, it was just a thick yellow daal with tamarind added to give a sourness, it lack all the flavours that should exist, drumstick, curry leaves, root veg etc!

The chutneys were not much better white (coconut) chutney lacked flavour, no mustard seeds, no ginger, no curry leaves, again not even salt! green (mint!) chutney.... this is a weird one, not a chutney ever served with a dosa in India and also not in the other places I have eaten in the UK not a good match with Dosa. Save it for the north India. red (tomato) chutney, this was the best of a bad bunch!

I also watched the table next to me being served pre-made packet naan breads (like clay oven bakery) so I wouldn't rate the North Indian food if they can't even make naan bread!

Overall I give it a miss again! Better to make the drive to London for a much tastier authentic experience!!

NOT...

I wish i could give even less because of the expwrience with a man who serviced us today. We have been going to this restraunt frequently though it is far from our place but we loved the taste but today it was awful. We odered

  1. Spicy masala dosa- the taste was really bad, the potato masala tasted soiled thought it was eatble.
  2. Sambhar - the sambhar was actually tasteless boiled yellow lentil, very bad in taste.
  3. chutneys - all the three chutneys were really bad, tasteless, i was the fan of their chutneys earlier and now they have made it a mess
  4. mix veg uttapam - there were no veggies only Onion and Tomato, that too over cooked
  5. Masala tea - it was good, only thing like before
  6. sambhar vada - because the sambhar was awful and it was dipped, it also tasted bad. When asked the change in taste, we got to know the chef is changed hence this is the taste now. Coming on to the worst part, the service which is awful. The man who serviced us was really rude, impolite and argumentative. We got the bill and because the taste was awful we had to leave the food, we asked to remove the service charge on which the service boy denied and said " upto you if you want to come next time or not, but service charge is mandatory", though it is illegal they have not mentioned it anywhere it is mandatory. This was our last visit to this restraunt, wish to never...
