I had not been to this place despite living in the area for more than 20 years and now i have been 4 times in 4 weeks. The first time i had the meat pie which os gmhuge filled with steak and mushrooms and comes with either mash or their amazing chips. I had it with mash which to be fair was a cold it didnt bother me my cousin got the same and had to ask for his to be warmed up. Fast forward a week and went in with my mam semhe got the meat pie and struggled to finish it, i got the small mixed grill fantstic quality and value at £14. A week or so later i went in with some work colleagues, they all got large mixed grills and fair to say they all struggled to finish them but rsved about the quality being spot on. This time i got the Chicken Madras again spot on good portion size half rice half chips and naan breads very good and it wad plenty hot enough. Yesterday I went back for a Sunday dinner. We went at 3 (which for clarity was booked in advance) and there was limited food choice left no roast beef, no steaks , no fish and 5 pies just enough for our group. The selection from the carvery was limited, certainly not as much choice as nearby Lambwath perhaps it wss the time we went but a lack of hot gravy and cold mash again?. As a group we were dissapointed and on reflection i wouldnt go for Sunday lunch again. The food on the whole is good but the service lets it down a bit staff are not very attentive or responsive as...
Read morePopped in during the summer for a drink and noticed how good the meals looked so I promised myself to get back. Well the food did not disappoint, two of us had the beef and ale pie and my OH had halloumi burger and chips. Portions are generous and none of us could finish our meals. The food itself was excellent, the beef pie was perfection as were the homemade chips. My partner enjoyed her halloumi burger but her fries were not as good as my homemade ones. The service was good and the two girls behind the bar were friendly. The puddings look very good but we didn't bother today. A lovely afternoon out see you again soon.
Been back today 15/4/25, Cant believe its been four months since our last visit. This time two of us had the fish and chips and I have to say the quality of the fish was top notch, the batter was absolutely perfect and it was all cooked perfectly. My Partner had the Halloumi burger again and really enjoyed. But this visit we had the grandkids with us. The eldest decided to have the Nachos for his main( its a starter for sharing) it was huge and really tasty whilst the youngest just had the pizza and chips off the kids menu, Beer was spot on and service was efficient and friendly. Well done The Duke team, wont leave if so long till...
Read moreWe are local people but don't go to the pub everyday, we maybe go once a month or so. Unless you are a "preferred" regular don't bother. We asked for a pint of Guinness to which we were told they had run out, fair enough so we ordered something else and took a seat. On looking round we noticed some were drinking Guinness. We thought maybe they had only just run out and people were still drinking the last of their pints. A few minutes later someone from the table at side of us came back from the bar carrying 4 pints of Guinness. We went back up for another drink and asked for a pint of Guinness again thinking they had maybe changed the barrel only to be told again they didn't have any. Again the table next to us came back again with 4 pints of Guinness. I asked a guy on the next table how they were getting Guinness to which I was told this is a regular practice to serve the regulars but tell others there wasn't any. This is disgusting, everyone should be treated the same. If there is a limited supply then sell what you have then tell everyone there is no more don't lie to customers just because they dont come into the pub everyday. We live 5 minutes away but won't be using this pub again. We were in there to see what it would be like for a wedding...
