My friend and I were unable to find a restaurant on the island to eat in at 9pm on Saturday.
One of the locals told us this was the only place that we could eat without prebooking.
When my drink arrived I noticed something squashed in the glass. I told the waiter who promptly put his fingers in the glass and took it out, saying it was just something on the lemon rind, he then went to get me another drink, when the replacement came it was at the exact level as the one he took away with the same melting ice. I suspected he just replaced the lemon, therefore, I decided not to drink it. Halfway through our meal, he asked if everything was okay. I then said,"It's the same drink"
He was furious, said "If you don't trust me this is what I am forced to do" He brought an unopened bottle of drink to the table, flung some ice in, hands shaking with rage, he flicked off the top which flew on the floor. At this point another person appeared saying he is the owner. He was so angry his eyes were bulging and rolling in his head whilst he shouted at me saying the waiter didn't put his fingers in the drink because he personally saw him then said do I think they can't afford to replace a tonic water and since I didn't trust them I should leave his restaurant. He then preceede to have a discussion with the waiter in another language. Then again shouted since I didn't trust them he would prefer that I didn't eat his food. At this point the waiter dissappear from view.
We both sat there frozen with shock. I found it hard to process what had happened I couldn't understand why two men were shouting at me with so much rage. We didn't leave straight away because we didn't want to be accused of not paying for the meal. The owner preceeded to go outside and spoke to someone on his mobile phone, at that point I was scared, I thought he may have been organising for someone to assault me when I go outside. My friend asked for the bill and paid. On the way to the hotel I kept on looking behind thinking somebody was coming after me.
I am flabbergasted I cannot understand what that rage was about and why two men thought it was okay to terrorise me. That totally spoilt my experience in the...
Read moreAwful restaurant. Food was truly terrible. Ordered tandoori chicken tikka starter which was a small piece of red coloured chicken and very bland and dried out. The puri bhaji was totally not what we expected. A large puri folded in half and filed with potatoe cauliflower onion curry. In 5 minutes it became wet and soggy. Should have been served separate. It was more like a main meal portion. The taste was ok but had to eat it with a knife and fork because the curry filling had all come out. The main meal was nizami chicken, taarka Dahl and cauliflower curry. The nizami chicken was swimming in this heavy thick lumpy gravey and had only 6 pieces of again red coloured chicken. Taste was not good. Thought it would be a normal punjabi style chicken curry but it was not. The sauce had lots of onion pieces and was not smooth. 20% meat and 80% sauce. The cauliflower curry was exactly that! Just cauliflower. No potatoes or peas which you would at least expect in a vegetarian curry. But was very disappointed that it was so sweet. Curry should not be sweet. The taarka dahl was completely plain. No flavour at all. We ordered 4 cokes which had no gas and were flat. The garlic naan was totally dry and doughy. All this for £72! For that price you would expect really good food. Remember this is not authentic North Indian punjabi food. It is Bangladeshi. If you are Indian expecting proper Indian food then you will be very disappointed. I forgot to mention the pilau rice. It was completely dry and had dots of red and green food colour. I left filling totally ripped off and was revolted by the sub standard quality of the food. When you go on holiday restaurants should be good and not a way of making money out of customers. To be honest the bill didn't match the quality of food. I would expect to pay no more than £40 for this...
Read moreI have never left negative review as I do understand reviews are very important for the business. Unfortunately , the standard at the Eastern Eye was very poor. We were visiting Isle of Wight from London in September 2020. We came across Eastern Eye and decided to dine in. Having entered the restaurant we were greeted and seated by the waiter/owner who was well dressed. We ordered our drinks and food. While we were waiting for our food the second waiter entered the restaurant from outside. Our drinks were served. The second waiter was standing at the Bar which was opposite our table. He was very unprofessional and his behaviour towards us and his colleague was not acceptable. The main arrived about 20 mins later, we all ordered Chicken Tikka Birany. The Birany had 3-4 small slice of chicken, rice was frozen and had funny smell. As we were hungry and 10pm restriction we had no choice but to eat what we were given. Once, finished we asked for the bill, as agreed by waiter/owner we were given 10% discount. However, the second waiter who we think is the son of the owner highlighted the discount amount with a highlighter which we felt offensive. Moreover, when other table was given bill they were offered mint/candies with the bill, but when we were given bill there was no mint/candies. Honestly, We never complaint or left a poor review in a restaurant, because we have restaurant in London and we do know what it’s like when customer complaint. I am sorry, but at The Eastern Eye the whole experienced was poor . We will never go there again when we visit Isle of Wight!!! It was terrible!!! Don’t be fooled, this place have no quality food or service. Kebab shop next door would have been a...
