This is a sandy beach. The stretch between the Pier and the Fins Beach Cafe is much quieter and overall very nice but the tide comes here quicker. The beach is flat and we arrived at 10:00am and the tide was in by 11:00am, so you definitely need to check the times of the tide as they are very changeable. We have moved to the other side of the Pier close to Bayshore Hotel and the beach is going up a bit there, so that has given us 2 hours extra before the tide came in. The beach is relatively narrow, so the water will cover the beach in full when the tide is in. The place is a bit run down, so it does not have an amazing atmosphere. There are small cafes there, ice cream and further in town places to eat. The car park is on the street and there is a decent number of spaces all along the stretch of the beach. Civil Enforcement Officers monitor the payment for the car park, so do not be late even 1 min. We were packing to the car on our return from the beach and the officer was still scanning our car while...
Read moreBeautiful beach but all sun beds were chained up. This was August High Season. We found some which weren’t chained & set them out ourselves. A very rude girl came to us and said we couldn’t use them. We said we wanted to hire them. This was £5 for each sun bed. We were prepared to pay £30 for them but were told they weren’t available & the beach was closed!? Her boss then came. He was the manger at the Driftwood Bar. He said the Driftwood managed the sun beds & the beach wasn’t open. He was extremely rude also. We offered to put the sun beds back ourselves after we had used them & paid for them but they said no & stacked them back up. Bring back the lovely man who was in charge of the sun beds on Sandown beach for years. We were in Sandown for 8 nights from 3/8/21& sun beds were always chained up. Don’t you want people to come for holidays...
Read moreBeach was ok, not as stoney as shanklin but the look of the buildings were abysmal, run down, desparate need of a tidy up and a bit of a mess, toilets stunk along the beach and sanitary bins hadn't been changed for a while (days). In all honesty was a bit grotty and wont return. Pier amusements were average, adventure golf was fun but bumper cars had too many cars on the track and ended up with a lot of congestion. 20p for a wee? Really!! I dont mind paying for a tiddle in the pier toilets if they were kept nice but none of the toilets flushed properly and were heavy with loo roll, I had to hold my girls over as they werent tall enough to hover 🤢There was a lovely young man in the beach shop opposite the pier when we bought our girs a frisby and the beach cafe was lovely too and I'm afraid that is...
