Me and my mum are regular customers of esquires and we usually think it's a fantastic place. We always enjoy our coffee and cake. However today was a different story. I popped in to order a takeaway sandwhich, two cakes and a drink. The lady serving me under charged me and when I questioned it she said it was fine. ( I was charged £3.75) 30 seconds later she calls me back to confirm that I had actually been under charged. My full total for my order was £12. They then went to charge me £12 when I had already paid £3.75! When I raised this issue another assistant apologised and offered to refund the £3.75 I paid in cash ( I thought this was strange because I thought she would of offered to put this back on my card because I paid by card). The young lady who had undercharged me was told by the assistant to hand me £3.75 in change but only handed me 0.75p! I then felt embarrassed because I had to ask for the other £3. Overall going into esquires today was a disaster which was a shame as it's usually the most...
Read moreThe coffee is great but food standards have slipped considerably since this branch opened. I have now been served burnt food 5 times, including both times I visited this week. Each time the burnt section has been 'hidden' underneath other food so clearly staff are aware of the problem but choose to serve it anyway, which is unacceptable. This weekend my husband was served the gluten free version of the eggs royale and was served less than one whole slice of gf bread as a substitute for the usual bagel and we have both noticed that serving sizes have been reduced on both the cheaper and more expensive components of the dishes we order regularly. My husband is a chef and I work in events catering so we understand the business and the importance of value and consistency to your most important customers - your regulars. I'm afraid you've just lost two of yours. EDIT: return visit one month later and ordered a tea cake to see if things had improved. Yep - you've guessed it -...
Read moreHonestly not impressed. No NHS track & trace compatible qr codes and we were not prompted to track & trace by the lad that served us. It is a legal requirement for all businesses to display the NHS track & trace code from 24th September, why aren't you? Whilst we were there at least 5 other people had entered, sat & left- none of these people checked themselves in which is just insane. 2 americanos, one with some cold milk and both served in takeaway cups for £5.10- seriously? We weren't even told how much our drinks were (I remembered to check my bank statement after), the contactless machine was just thrust our way. The coffee itself was fine, but over a fivers worth I don't think so... Our first time visiting esquires and this will be the only time. I sincerely hope they make necessary adjustments to ensure they become covid safe and comply with legal...
