We visited the Farmers Arms today for a family birthday. We had been previously for another family birthday and enjoyed it so much we came back. But unfortunately we didn't have the same experience this time round. We arrived to be welcomed by a lovely waiter Lois who took our drinks order. We then were ready to order our food, the waiter told us there was no sausage and mash and also no kebabs so we went around the table ordering when someone wanted the 5oz steak (9 year old) we were told they had none of those as well so we said no problem we will have the 10oz, 4 other people ordered the 10oz steak. The waiter then came back to inform us that there was only one 10oz steak. It was only 5pm so had only just switched to the evening menu so couldn't have sold out. So we made other choices, unfortunatle the poor waiter had to come back again to tell us there was also no Lamb. It was just going from bad to worse, had we been told so many items were not available we would have chosen to go elsewhere. We than had a word with the Manager who was not very helpful and said there had been a problem with the stock. We then seemed to be a problem as I think the staff were embarrassed to come to our table and we were having to go to the bar to order drinks, which is fine if you are busy but it was quite and there were plenty of staff. I feel the Manager was not experienced enough to deal with the issues and there for got very defensive and abrupt and was seemed out of his depth. He did however remove the steak from the bill as it was as tough as old boots and was not eaten, and took an extra 10 percent off the bill however it wasnt the money it was a very dissapointing birthday meal. The rest of the food was very nice and everyone else enjoyed their meal. But I must say that Lois our waiter was one of the most polite well mannered young men I have come across, considering it must have been very embarrassing for him to have to come over and keep telling us that things weren't available. After the meal we would have liked to have tipped Lois personally for his service. However we were told this wasn't allowed and that we needed to tip with the bill as they are shared equally amongst the staff. I would have been happy to leave a tip to be shared aswell but felt like Lois had gone above and beyond under the difficult circumstances he was dealing with and wanted to reward his service personally and this should be my choice and not a rediculas company policy. Very...
Read moreWe visited this pub with family mainly for Christmas dinner as I had moved to Poynton last year and wanted to try something local and traditional. The food was not disappointing as the service. We ordered the turkey and nut roast. I really liked the nut roast. Christmas pudding was excellent moist, soft and sweet. Coming back to the service issue. As soon as we arrived we were taken to our table. I was waiting for my husband to arrive so waited before ordering the drinks. To our surprise the lady who was serving us asked for drinks order twice without providing the drinks menu. Then was the time to order the food and when we did there was no smiles, no suggestions not even eye contact which I found extremely rude. The place where we were sat was bit noisy so husband requested for a quieter table. Our server said that all tables were reserved and they could not move us to the other table which we requested, because it was supposed to be merged together for a larger group. To our surprise while we were finishing off our dessert we noticed people arriving on those tables and there was no large group. Overall my experience has not been good mainly because of the service and how unwelcomed I felt when I was there. Probably the staff needs training to improve the customer experience. When I ask myself will I go there again and I would think...
Read moreA group of 6 had booked a table in conservatory part of the restaurant at 7.30pm. When we arrived we were told there were no tables available in the conservatory area & we were seated in one of the bench seats. We suggested that they push two empty tables together in the conservatory but we’re told they could not do this. So we reluctantly accepted our bench seats. Whereupon we were told about the dishes which were no longer available on the menu. We then tried to order wine to be told that the 2 Sauvignons on offer were sold out! We settled for a bottle of rose. This was not going well & the waitresses were young & seemed unable to make any decisions & there did not appear to have anyone in charge. The food when it came was fine but we decided to have another bottle of Rose to be told that they had run out of it! We were offered another Rose which we accepted ( having little other choice) So there were three popular wines which were advertised on the wine menu were unavailable. This you have to remember is 7.30 on a Saturday evening which you would have thought would be a popular dining time. This really was a disaster from beginning to end & I certainly won’t be returning to this joke of a restaurant!! They need to up their game & employ experienced restaurant staff & a manager to manage...
