This is a nice pub. The staff are friendly and helpful. The drink and food prices are ok, as you would expect from the type of establishment. We hadn't been before and was looking forward to a couple of drinks and a nice meal. We arrived early doors, around 6:30pm thinking it would be quiet. No ! It was a very noisy pub with lots of people all shouting over each other. Nevertheless we decided to give it a go. We asked if we could sit in the conservatory as it looked nice and was quieter. We chose our food and around 15 mins later it arrived. All was going well, the food was nice n tasty and plentiful....And then....Ohhh no. A long hair right across my plate under my food ! Well, it wasn't one of mine I've got a bald head ! How very disappointing. It put a complete downer on things. We brought it to the attention of the waitress who was apologetic but didnt seem to know what to do. She disappeared and came back and said, "as a way of an apology can i offer you a free cup of tea"! WHAT, a cup of tea. Are you having a laugh. We couldn't help but take this as just added insult to injury. We told them we wasnt happy and we would pay the bill and be leaving. The waitress went off again and this time came back saying they would knock the price off one meal. Im not out to bad mouth these people on the whole they did a decent job. But if you make a mistake in the kind of business you're in, then play the game and dont insult people by offering a bloody cup of tea. (Which by the way i wouldn't drink as i dont like tea). Would i return to this pub...Errrr i dunno. I may give it another chance sometime, the whole experience has put me off for the time being. Sorry guys, must...
Read moreThe food we received was tasty and well cooked. On arrival, we were told that Sunday lunch veg was running out and that we would receive minimal veg and the plate would be bulked out with other items. However, there was no veg on the Sunday lunch when the meal arrived. After telling the waiter, we were told that extra yorkshire pudding and red cabbage would be brought out to compensate, which didn't arrive. We went to order dessert and were told some items were sold out. After ordering, the waitress returned and advised items we had ordered were also off the menu. We were told 10% would be taken off the food bill and 2 desserts would be offered complimentary. The discount was offered on the mains only and the desserts were not removed from the bill. The most annoying thing was we were told the Sunday lunch menu was all that was being offered that day, however we saw other tables being offered other options. On the way out, we also saw another table who had ordered Sunday lunch and had a mountain on their plate! As I said, the food we received was very tasty and well cooked, but there were too many issues for me to review the...
Read moreThis was not our planned destination, but so glad it became it! We were due to meet at the Fox and Hound, one of us having travelled from Kent, bringing two kittens that were destined for forever homes in Lancashire. My role was to help with the NW leg to enable my friend to avoid adding a further 150 miles to her round trip. The Fox and Hounds refused to allow her in with her carrier and kittens. There was no such problem at the George and Dragon. Quite the opposite, their only caveat was that dogs were also in the bar area, but all were well behaved. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Food was also excellent and well served. My only quibble would have been that I ordered fish fingers and ended up with chicken and bacon, but it was delicious so I have no complaints. Everywhere was clean and well cared for and as I say above the staff were friendly and very helpful. There was none of the pressure you can experience to buy more food or drinks or to leave. Will definitely come again, with or...
