1st time at a Hickory's and first impressions were very good venue looked new and stylish and we were instantly greeted by friendly attentive staff. After being seated our waitress introduced herself and took our order promptly. Drinks arrived quickly and our food order was taken i got one of the milkshakes as i was driving which was really nice but very very sweet . Unfortunately this is when it fell down a little, there were 6 of us and 2 of us ordered starters and mains and the other 4 just ordered mains, we waited almost 50 minutes for our 2 starters to arrive which were only nachos and corn dogs. I was told the corn dogs were OK but nothing special and I wasn't a fan of the nachos as they somehow seemed to be soft rather than crunchy which I suspect they had been left on the side somewhere whilst we were waiting. We were literally about half way through our starters and the mains started to arrive, we thought they may just be bringing the other peoples mains who didn't order starters but then our mains were brought out when we were still halfway through out starters which isn't good but tbh I wasn't that impressed with the starter so just pushed it to the side for the mains to be placed down. The staff did see we were still eating our starter when they brought out the mains and wasn't sure what to really do but as we had all now been waiting so long i said it was ok and just put them down. Now I must admit the mains really "pulled" 😉 it back for them as it was amazing i got the big smoke house platter and there was a lot. The sausage was absolutely amazing possibly best I have had, the pulled pork with pitted beans was very tasty although quite sweet but I really liked it. The baby back ribs were nice but nothing amazing but the beef rib was really nice and just fell apart. Chicken wings were quite large and nice and the sauce on them was lovely. The coleslaw tasted like it was made with sour cream rather than mayonnaise and wasnt really to our liking but the pickles were lovely. But the star of the show was the brisket which was fantastic, it just pulled apart with no effort and the rub that was on it was amazing. Everyone else said their mains were really good it was just a shame that the starters wasn't really up to scratch and took so long to arrive. We had also just had a big celebration and the staff went all out and brought us a lovely treat that was really nice and much appreciated. All in all I will deffo go again as the staff were friendly, the mains were very good, venue was nice clean and looked quite trendy. Deffo not the cheapest place to eat but you get what...
Read moreVery average I expected much better overall considering the posh area and food prices. So it was personally my first time eating here along with my family (mother and 3 brothers) out for a special occasion I'd only heard positive reviews in the past by a couple of friends so I expected great things. Firstly on arrival there was a nice big car park with a few spaces left we arrived at peak time on a Saturday. We were asked if we had booked and were immediately seated at our table with no issues and left us with 1 little box of popcorn between a table of 4?, it took around 10 minutes to be asked what drinks we wanted by the waitress, this was not good as it was very hot inside of the restaurant and we were all thirsty. Then shortly after she took our meal orders which took around 20 minutes to arrive with I thought we'd reasonable as it was very busy. So I asked for a hot chicken wing starter (£8.75) to come out with our mains which it did but we're incredibly dry and overcooked, I ordered the 12oz cowboy steak (£25) which was cooked perfectly to rare but it was under seasoned unfortunately and a bit tough (perhaps because I'm used to ordering fillet) I think I would have been better ordering a burger, so it came with skin on fries which were tasty and an underwhelming pepper sauce which was too mild and creamy. I didn't want to be rude and ask other party members on the food but I did notice that my brother's meal the BBQ pulled pork (£17) was a very small portion indeed. My other family had another steak, chicken waffle and 1/2 chicken . We had to keep asking the waitress for drinks and steak knives but she did ask if the meals were ok we didn't complain about the dry chicken wings. So after mains we ordered a couple of desserts I had a Texas pie which was different to what I would usually order but was lovely and my brother ordered a sundae not sure of which one but it was a great size, we had to ask again for spoons. We asked for the bill approx (£160) and paid via card the waitress was rather miserable again and didn't even say goodbye to our table, my mum had cash tip in her hand which is standard for her but decided against it on this occasion due to the waitress with her head down just walking off such a shame. So I don't think I'll be returning again the food was just average and the the waitress we had didn't seem to care...
Read moreAn Unforgettable Experience at Hickory’s Smokehouse, Poynton
We had an absolutely amazing experience at Hickory’s Smokehouse in Poynton. From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed and looked after — the staff truly went the extra mile to make our visit special. My husband, my mum, and I came last month to celebrate a small but meaningful baby shower with just our close family, ahead of the bigger one. It was a very emotional day for us — earlier, I had suffered a bad fall down the stairs, needed to visit the hospital, and our car broke down — it was a disaster of a day. But coming to Hickory’s completely turned it around.
The food, as always, was delicious with generous portions and very fair prices. The atmosphere was warm and comforting, and the service we received was nothing short of outstanding. Paige, our waitress, was incredibly attentive and kind, and Zoe, the manager that day, went above and beyond to make our occasion feel truly special. Another member of the team (whose name I sadly can't remember) even created a personalised drawing for us — a beautiful and unexpected touch.
Zoe and the team surprised us with celebratory desserts, drinks on the house, and even thoughtful gifts from Hickory’s. It was just unbelievable how far they went to make us feel celebrated and supported — we were genuinely touched.
We returned again recently, this time to mark our due date, and once again, Hickory’s was the perfect place to be. The food and dessert were as incredible as ever, and Zoe was once again there to greet us with kindness, excitement, and even more thoughtful touches. We had a lovely chat, received more sweet gifts, and left feeling uplifted and truly cared for.
This place is more than just a restaurant — it’s a place full of heart, where people care and celebrate the meaningful moments in your life with you. We can’t wait to return again soon with our little one to mark her arrival.
Thank you to Zoe, Paige, and the entire team at Hickory’s Smokehouse, Poynton — you’re doing an amazing job, and we’re so grateful. Keep doing what you do — you’re making a...
