Edit & Update - After 9 months and avoiding Hideaway like the plague even though I walk past it twice daily, I decided to give them a second chance. Went with my daughter and her partner and my dog, this time. We ordered 3 Hideaway Breakfasts. The breakfast was mostly good - the bacon was a bit incinerated, although felt a bit small for the money still. At least it was consistent between the 3 of us. The tea & coffee was excellent (decent size pot of tea vs the half full one last time) and the service was top notch and really friendly. So I’ve adjusted the review as appropriate. The cost and burnt bacon keeps it from being 5* but other than that, a much better breakfast.
Whilst I understand this is a new restaurant and teething troubles happen, there are basics that you just need to get right from the beginning. The food seems dreadfully overpriced - £12 for a full English (in this case, 2 pieces of toast, a single sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, a single fried egg, some home made baked beans, a single hash brown, a fried mushroom & a fried tomato) is 30% more than the other local cafe’s, and a single cup of tea for nearly £4 is also a bit steep. They provide a teapot for the tea but only half fill it with water. But the worst thing was the service - both my friend and I felt like we were not welcome at all. The young guy who showed us to our table was rude & seemed really unhappy to be there. It took 15 minutes before our order was taken, and then we ordered 2 full English, a Tea & a Coffee. We didn’t get asked what toast we wanted (the menu said a choice of brown or white toast), and when the breakfasts came I asked for some butter as the toast was dry. I was told dismissively by the young chap that ‘we butter the toast’ but it clearly hadn’t been. When I went to the counter to ask for some butter it was almost taken personally by the young man who stomped off to get some butter. Everything seemed to be an imposition - and even more than that the breakfasts were different - we both had different amounts of the items in the breakfast - and hilariously I asked for salt & pepper, (not sure why they don’t just leave a pair of grinders on each table) but the guy came to the table with the grinders, put the salt down, muttered something to himself and walked off with the pepper. At that point I just couldn’t be arsed and just chalked it up to experience and vowed never to return. As probably my nearest cafe (I live literally down Church Lane and walk past here daily) I was so excited to eventually try it, but hugely disappointed with the food and the exceptionally...
Read moreI have seen the photos of the food here online and thought I would pop in today to treat myself to a full English breakfast as they looked amazing online. Upon entry, the establishment looked clean and well decorated. I liked the touch of them selling home items such as cups, clothes etc. I walked straight to the till and asked if they served breakfast. I was told by who I assume to be either the GM or the DM that they do and to take a seat. I looked at the menu which seems a little unfulfilling but it had on there full English and that's what I wanted. About 5 mins later, a guy who looked like he really didnt want to be working today came over and under his breath asked me if I would like anything to drink. I ordered a tin of Coke and he brought out the Coke in a small glass. There was no way that the whole 330mls of Coke was in the glass. I then waited a total of 20 mins to be served. There was only a few other tables in. Some had eaten, some were eating and some just came in. The place was hardly roaring. Within my long wait, I heard the managing lady say to another customer that it was table service however I didn't feel that it was from my own experience and the elderly lady who proceeded to sit down and wait, may have actually passed away if she had had to wait as long as I had. As I had work at 11.30, I couldn't be waiting any longer so after my 20 min boredom at the table closest to the till I went over and said can I pay for my drink and the same girl who told me they do breakfasts, so clearly knew I was not only there to eat but had a good idea of what I wanted, said yes and instead of asking me if I wanted the food I had proclaimed to want, she asked me if I wanted to pay by card. I paid £3.50 for 3/4 of a tin of Coca Cola and to wait 20 mins to be acknowledged! I can see from similar reviews, I am not the only one to have recieved this disgusting service which is very disappointing for an 'up-and-coming' new business in the area. I have worked in the exact industry for 17 years myself and found the customer service appauling. You get better service and even eye contact in McDonalds! I eventually decided to end my hunger and go to a well known and long established business that I should never have even thought about not going to in the first place. I wont be returning or recommending however, judging by the attitudes of the staff, I don't think they would be too bothered anyway. I look forward to seeing the 'We are sorry to say we are closing our doors' post on their Facebook...
Read moreCame here for food after a nice walk.
Very nice menu with varied options. I had the Panko chicken schnitzel ciabatta which was really good. big portion with lots of filling. The breading on the chicken was amazing and must have been made fresh.
My wife had the Breakfast bagel (Back bacon, fried free range hen’s egg, halloumi and without the chili sauce). This was also really lovely.
I also enjoyed a very good latte whilst waiting for the food to arrive.
We were told when we ordered that the wait for food night be 20 mins but it took 45 mins for food too arrive. The staff were very apologetic about the wait and even offered us replacement drinks as an apology.
There is no Wifi available to use, and strangely we both had no phone signal inside (EE and 3). Not a massive issue but would be nice to have some wifi available.
Even though we had a long wait for food (which I believe was due to how busy they were when we arrived so I am sure was a one-off) we would definitely come back again...
