Our group walked through twilight surrounded by beautiful landscapes to Ryvoan Bothy through pine and birch wood and moorland on a well-maintained path. The pine woods are beautiful in torch light, we even had a go walking without torches for an even stretch without tripping hazards!
A high point of this trail are the beautiful green waters of Loch Emerald (An Lochan Uaine, Fairy Loch), so named for the colour of the water and a local legend that this was the place where the fairies did their laundry.
Don’t let the weather put you off … we hoped for stars and got cloud, yet the clouds reflected so much light it allowed us to walk longer without our torches, and with layers on, building up gradual heat during this easy hike, it felt surprisingly mild for Aviemore in March.
Throughout the walk Fabian and Alison shared environmental, geological and mindfulness knowledge with us, resulting in a calming walk that definitely increased my quality of sleep that night, so I would definitely recommend anyone interested in walking, at night!, in a comfortable atmosphere. Don’t worry, you are in safe hands!

The body scan meditation led by Mark was completely absorbing, and the sensory walk raised my awareness of my different senses in a way I haven't experienced before. Plus learning so much about the skies above, all the while being well fed on delicous food. I definitely will be back for...
Read moreThank you so much to Alison and Fabian for such an unforgettable experience. It was joy for the soul made magical by the clearing of the cloud-cover and the appearance of the clear star-filled skies above Robin Hood’s Bay. Alison’s skills as a guide and mindfulness practitioner (and astronomer) and Fabian’s knowledge of the natural world combine a therapeutic experience with an opportunity to stop and immerse yourself in nature, waking up your senses in the darkness and learning more about the night skies and our natural world. I loved it and look forward to joining future walks. An experience that will stay with me for...
