Table of 10 visiting on a Sunday mid-afternoon with a pre-booked table.
Firstly, because I forgot to mention it on the day, there was a loose bolt on the kids high chair - not uncommon and every establishment seems to have this problem but please check them!
Servers were OK and definitely an improvement on our last visit. Our party wanted to order individually to save splitting the bill at the end and some had kids etc, so we asked if the food could all come at once but it didn't and appeared over the course of 20-25 mins or so. By the time the last plate arrived, the first person to receive theirs, waited, gave up and started and finished.
Atmosphere was good. Not overly busy for a Sunday considering the League Cup Final was on too. Not at all rowdy or anything. Generally family friendly.
The food, however, was not good. In fact, the worst pizza I have ever seen and I go LOVE a pizza.
My pizza, which was a vegetarian option, arrived undercooked and greasy. It was so greasy, sauce that I added simply slid off the pizza! When you pick it up, 5he topping slid off. I tried two pieces but it was sickening. When we sent it back, without asking, the staff wanted to put it back in the over, so assuming it was undercooked by their own standards, as I didn't tell when what I thought was wrong with it. When I requested a refund on just the pizza, the manager asked if I knew I ordered a vegan pizza? Like vegans are supposed to expect gloo. They did, however, process a refund on our card but it's yet to arrive in my account, hence the review and it's not worth going back to the pub with my card to try again.
Just to clarify that this isn't just a stroppy vegan review, amongst our 9 adults, we also had one chicken pie arrive instead of steak, which had to go back. One hunters chicken arrived very dry. Another specically ask for fries when asked on orderiny but received chips. One chocolate brownie sundae had the smallest piece of brownie ever seen stuck on top and no more.
The family has visited the Hollow Tree maybe five times in the last 18 months and it's steadily getting worse. Previous visits we've had to deal with being a table short of our booking, as they ran out of table in that area, and a shortage of high chairs meaning toddlers sitting on laps. The food has always been passable in the past - a little hit and miss but acceptable for the cost - Sundays visit was atrocious, food-wise.
Definitely wouldn't recommend for food but it would be better for a...
Read moreAs it was my birthday, I thought it would be nice to go for a meal with my family and booked a table for 8. I clearly stated that a high chair would be required as one of the party was a 3 year old. When we arrived we were shown to a table, all the chairs around it were high because the table was high, higher than some of the other tables around. The high chair for the toddler was brought and the seat height was LOWER than the seats for the adults around the table. The table was at eye height to my grandson. How did the restaurant expect him to eat like that!!!!!!!!? We ordered our food, there was no pepperoni for the pizza so 1 of the party was disappointed. I ordered Hunters Chicken and was Very disappointed with my meal. It was very dry. Couldn't taste any cheese, no sauce to moisten it ( or if there was sauce it had completely dried out. Another member of the party ordered the same and that too was dry. Some people had good meals but the bad ones spoilt the enjoyment of the evening, as did the ridiculous seating situation. Why were we put on such a high table knowing the height of your highchairs and the fact one of the party was a 3 year old and short? Sorry to tell you but I won't be coming back Update - i phoned the Hollow Tree on Wednesday 26th March as they requested and was offered 2 free meals as compensation, which I declined. The person I spoke to was going to talk to his manager and see if they could offer something else. I was told I would receive a call Friday or Saturday of that week. Today is 12th April and I'm still...
Read moreLovely place, not overly expensive, nice variety on the menu, it's probably a good thing to remember this is a pub first and an eating establishment second.
Came here with my extended family, we booked a table and had arrived early but that wasn't an issue they seated us straight away, the bar staff are bright happy and very helpful and really do make thia place what it is. The menu had a lot to offer, you can order through an app or order at the bar.
The food came out all at once (important if you have children) all hot and all correct..sort of I noticed something was missing from my meal I informed the runner and the runner told me I was wrong I asked them to check which they did and it was corrected. So nice to know that if things are wrong they were quick to rectify it. This had no impact on our visit but felt it was noteworthy.
The place has adequate parking, and the place was clean as was the toilets, those visiting in warmer months there is a small outside play area for the smaller children.
Revisit.
Visiting on a Friday night early evening. Probably better to go when this place is quieter. As I would only give this visit 2 stars. Poor timing with presentation of food and poor quality. There was an issue with the food. Which could have been easily been avoided had the staff been better at communication. Which is a complete reversal of levels of...
