As our local curry house we always order from king of spice however they consistently get our order wrong. Lots of annoying silly mistakes like instead of vegetable samosas we are often given vegetable spring rolls and on one occasion we were actually given meat samosas!! They also always get the strength of the curry wrong and when asked for it not so hot it has come extra hot with extra chillies, and when asked for it extra hot it comes completely bland. Although our order is generally always wrong we tend to go back to them just because they are local however tonight was the last straw. Instead of the vegetarian buna that we ordered (as usual) after driving there and back we discovered they had given us a chicken buna instead. I rang them and they said oh ok we give you a good discount next time you order, I said no as a vegetarian I now had nothing to eat so I needed a vegetarian buna not a discount next time. He said ok if you come back I will get you another one. I said we couldn't come back as everyone else was now eating their food and I had had a drink. He then reluctantly agreed to deliver me a vegetarian buna but said it wouldn't be until the next delivery went out. I agreed and then 5 minutes later I had a phone call from king of spice who said that for them to deliver me a vegetarian buna I would need to give them back the chicken buna. I was quite shocked and said half of it was poured on to a plate already as we hadn't realised it was chicken until we poured it. He said that's fine just pour it back in the pot and give it to the driver when he arrives.... this immediately shocked me as 1) even if I hadn't poured it out already why are they asking for it back?! Are they just going to re heat it and serve it to another customer?!?! And 2) I could have done anything to that food before putting it back in the takeaway case!!! (I didn't, but how disgusting to think another customer is now eating a buna that was poured on to a plate in someone's house and then given back!!) When i got off the phone I realised they had called me 2 times previously so they were pretty desperate to get that chicken buna back!! It took them over 20 minutes to come with the vegetarian buna which on top of the time it took to collect it and drive it back meant the chicken buna was stone cold when we gave it back... I'm assuming they have now re heated it and served it to another customer. When we checked the price we were charged we noticed they had charged us for a chicken buna despite a vegetarian buna being £2 cheaper we were never offered the price difference back that we were incorrectly charged. The fact that king of spice is asking for food back shows they are clearly planning on re heating and re serving food which is absolutely disgusting and I will never ever be ordering...
Read moreOne of the worse New Year's Eve ever.. Avoid this curry place for a sit in if you can. We booked a table for 8, 4 weeks in advance of New Year's Eve. On our arrival the table was not even ready for us, Ok, not a problem as there was space. The manager came out and his communication wasn't great. At first he said there was no poppadoms, then after 3 mins in disbelief that a curry place surely can't run out of poppadoms he changed his attitude to say they don't have dips left, ok fair enough. We ordered our starters and mains. Starters came out fine but after waiting nearly an hour and a half after the starters the staff got the orders completely wrong!! How can you get a table of 8 completely wrong!? We noticed that the staff were more interested in their takeaway customers than their customer eating within their premises. Also what was funny considering they had no 'dips' for our popadoms, there were LOADS being handed to take away customers.... I don't think King of spice is fit enough or big enough to hold eat in on busy periods. After all the drama we walked out due to taxis we needed to catch, they did say they would offer a free curry on another night which we decided to take up the offer. However after ringing on the 2nd Jan they simply refused to offer a free curry, and was rude about the situation. Avoid if you fancy a sit in on busy periods, rude staff and simply can't handle the pressure... Can see Gordon Ramsey turning up soon to sort their mess out. Very angry local customer who use to like King of spice...
Read moreI popped in here after a long day at work as it was close to where I was staying for business. I ended up here by mistake really, I thought it was the sitting down part of the Chinese takeaway on the corner as it's right next to it and painted the same colour. It is Indian, and for non curry eater, I was nervous about the menu. They had plenty of non-curry options, so I opted for ginger chicken. It took ages to come out even though only 3 tables were occupied by 4 people in total. I got a feeling they were prioritising take-aways, as people dropped into the reception throughout my dining time there. The chicken with onion, tomato and ginger was quite tasty, but swimming in oil to the degree that made it quite unpleasant. 2cm thick (see photo). Besides being a mighty waste of oil, I didn't quite see the point of sitting there with a spoon trying to fish out these tasty morsels with minimum possible amount of oil. It all felt a little sticky, the floors, the toilets, the drinking glasses. No alcohol sold on premises, though one can bring it. Service non existent. The front reception guy was all about take -aways, the guy who brought out the dish, unfriendly, showed no interest in the customers whatsoever, except for when i called out to get the bill, and even then it was the front desk takeaway guy who brought it. Service charge was small, but offensive, due to notable absence of...
