Houghton Hall Park Cafe — Restaurant in England

My mum visited today and ordered a banana and strawberry smoothie that cost her £5 now paying £5 for a smoothie you would expect it done properly and for it to be good and made with fresh ingredients unfortunately this is not what my mum received when you think of smoothies you think fresh fruit, milk, some ice and maybe a little bit of fresh fruit juice instead the lady behind the counter added some strawberry syrup to a cup with water and some ice and blended it handing my mum a cup of frothy syrup and water which cost her £5 my mum asked the lady if there was any milk in the mixture to be met with a lost clueless face and told “no?” As if the idea of milk in a smoothie is an alien concept this left my mum deflated and frustrated and rightfully feeling ripped off she spent £5 on a banana and strawberry smoothie to be given essentially squash there wasn’t even a banana or milk in sight maybe she is new or you have a new way of making your “smoothies” but to charge £5 for syrup and water is wrong and the response to my mums query was highly inappropriate and unprofessional my mum paid for a product she didn’t receive when she complained she should of been offered a new one or at least offered an explanation and staff should know how to make smoothies and be trained in making the products they’re selling and customer service especially at the prices...

Lovely park to walk the dog, went to the cafe yesterday all the outside tables were full of plates of 1/2 eaten food & used utensils all the time we were there no attempt was made to clear the mess . I went inside to order some drinks, whilst waiting I glanced around the kitchen area and thought it didn't look particularly clean, the oven/gril back panel was heavily marked in a brown substance which I assume was fat from the cooking. The next thing I saw was a member of staff plating up a meal using her fingers to put the chips onto the plate, as she did she popped one of the chips in her mouth. I make these these comments with authority as I owned and operated a town centre cafe. I can't understand why this establishment achieved a 5 star hygiene rating. Having ordered a cup of tea I was told the milk was on the table next to counter it was in 4 pint bottle with no refrigeration! In closing I would add that it was not...

Been visiting here a couple of times a week for the last few months. Always friendly service, tasty food and drink in a really nice setting. Would be nice if they had music playing especially during quite times. Great place to walk the dog or catch up with friends. The kids play area is very small with not much to go on so children over the age of 3 will likely get bored quickly.

Could definitely do with some blinds during the time of year when the sun is low on the big windows, makes its so hot and uncomfortable.

23-07-25 Ordered ×3 cheese & onion toasties. Not nice at all, cheap tasteless cheese and huge chunks of raw onion. I highly recommend ordering anything else...
