Hubbox Pentewan — Restaurant in England

Ordered our food through the website via the click and collect page. Simple process and great options to add or remove individual ingredients from the meals.

Arrived at 19:40 to collect our order at 19:45. Whilst waiting we overheard several people complaining to the poor chap at the order and collection window about the length of time they had been waiting.

Our turn now at the collection window. Showed the guy our collection reference. He went to the kitchen and shortly returned explaining that the 19:45 collection time is actually 19:45-20:00. This was not stated at any point during the online process.

We waited nearby the collection window until 20:15. During this time more people were left disappointed after being told that their orders were not ready. Some people were offered drinks, other cancelled their orders and the remaining including us were ignored.

Finally at 20:20 we were handed out bag. We started to walk away and then realised that our drinks were not inside. We returned again but had to wait 10 minutes for our drinks to be sorted.

By the time we returned to our car, the food was cold, our sprits were low and we regretted not spending our last night of our holiday cooking a meal ourselves.

I appreciate that these are difficult times but it appeared that the restaurant accepted too many online orders which they were unable to manage.

There was no social distancing in and around the collection area and no management of the queues on the decking.

For our first visit here we were unfortunately very disappointed. I have two stars as the burger would have been nice if the meat...

When we arrived the friendly waitress managed to squeeze us in under the TV by the bar. We placed our order and waited. A young lad made our tea which he poured the water into our 2 teapots then let it stew for several minutes before bringing it over to us. I don’t mind strong Tea but my wife cannot drink it if it’s stewed as this was. I asked for some sweeteners and was given 2. Tough luck if you wanted more. Then we watched in amazement as the food pass filled up with orders ready to go out. The Kitchen staff were frantically ringing the bell to get service. 4 members of staff were stood behind the bar talking and laughing. They were serving drinks but all the food was going cold and not a single member of the front of house team seemed interested or bothered. Then our food arrived and yes you guessed it, it was stone cold. I ate mine as I was extremely hungry but my wife sent hers back. The kitchen reheated it and put it on the pass ringing the bell, then they rang the bell again and eventually the food was brought out, cold again. My wife ate it as she was also very hungry. We informed our friendly waitress who apologised and said she’d tell the manager, which she did do, the manager looked over at us and then just carried on with his day. Not a care in the world. It’s a lovely little place severely lacking in attention to detail and any leadership at all. Obviously that was just a snap shot of the place as we didn’t return (we were camping on site for a week). That was our experience and we definitely would not go back, definitely not...

We arrived at 5:30pm and had pre-booked a table for 6 people, including two young children. On arrival the staff already seemed terse and stressed. We ordered on the app, waited almost an hour for food, with no communication from the staff about why we were waiting. We watched multiple orders leaving via the takeaway window, and to the outdoor seating area, which was frustrating. Until my Father In Law asked where our food was nobody told us anything. At one point we looked around and not one table had any food. A large family had to ask for bread to keep their kids from grumbling of hunger. Once we had grumbled we did get a pot of chips for the kids on the house, but when the food arrived ten minutes later it was thrown together and disappointing. We are actually locals and this isn't what we expect from Hub Box.

Also the door was endlessly being propped open with wind blowing in, several diners complained amongst themselves about it. We are hardy and used to the Cornish weather but after waiting freezing for food for an hour we'd lost our sense of humour. We won't be back -...
