I returned to the zoo after five years only to find the steam train gone. How very sad to see a popular attraction disappear. Apart from disliking the management who now runs this zoo for (apparently) disregarding public opinion about the steam train, the rest of the park was as beautiful as before. My second visit was in November rather than the summer; but nevertheless, I still enjoyed the visit and the rain left off for most of the day. The restaurant has a good choice of tasty food at a reasonable price and there are loads of seats scattered throughout the park, as well as picnic tables and a play area for the children. The gift shop had a lot of really lovely little nik naks that I havent found elsewhere. I certainly recommend a day out at this zoo. Meanwhile I suggest that customers write a complaint about the steam train...
Read moreDecent food, fair prices. Service is okay, but the 'Indian dhal' on my jacket potato was very cold when served, had to wait about 7 mins for it to be heated up.
Not the cleanest restaurant though, all the staff are quite young and don't seem to be cleaning tables but instead waiting for customers at tills even when business is quiet. Brilliant location though.
There are limited vegetarian and vegan options but it's good to see some choices. Good selection of birchall specialty teas, and delicious cakes!
Biodegradable packaging on sandwiches etc is good to see, they are reducing single use plastics at the zoo so they only sell cartons or...
