Had the most bizarre experience in the Kino Lounge this evening which resulted in an extraordinarily disappointing outcome.
I'd gone in to have a meal with friends, sat upstairs and ordered steak and frites, I'd ordered the steak medium but received as rare, (ironically, wait for the next part) not to cause a fuss despite the steak being cooked rare I decided to just go on and eat it, the steak was very chewy and was finding hard to swallow to the point where I got a part lodged in my windpipe, not too alarming as still breathing ok but the steak wouldnt go down and was sat at the base of my oesophagus. I proceeded downstairs to the toilet when on coughing the piece of steak dislodged and I coughed it into my hand. I went to the toilet to clean up and went back to my friends who were relieved I was OK. I left the rest of the steak and we ordered coffees.
Next thing we know the waitress has come up to us, asking us to leave as I'd been 'sick on the stairs' and other guests had complained, I calmly explained the situation with the steak and what had occurred, but she was having none of it, we were being thrown out......!!
I can only hope in hindsight that this was a huge misjudgement in the moment by the Kino lounge staff at the time, I honestly cannot believe what happened there today.
I will make a further complaint in writing to the...
Read moreOver priced food. Chips come in a cup to make it look like there is more than there actually is. £9 for a chicken sandwich seems very steep. £2.85 for a “large” coke that is mostly ice. The decor is supposed to be “chabby chic” I’m guessing.. but there is bits of plaster missing from the walls, paint scraped off and the residue is left next to where it was scraped off.. there is a hazardous staircase with extremely dim lighting. I get going for the “quirky” look but it’s inexcusable to be unclean. The window ledge had multiple dead flies on it, paint scrapings left next to the table. There was even a little beetle and I have had a table with multiple ants on it before. While the tables appear to be wiped down, a lot of the rest is unnecessarily dirty. Having bare bricks and random holes / scuffed paintwork just makes it feel lazy and untidy. It isn’t cozy. It doesn’t feel like the staff clean up the multiple dead insects, nor care about them. While the wait staff are polite, I also feel there should be a better uniform rather than just... “hippie clothes” if it wasn’t over priced and didn’t have bugs on the tables and window ledges I would probably be...
Read moreAlways love a trip to Kino Lounge in Kettering. Part of a chain of 'lounge' restaurants and my local one doesn't disappoint. Went on a Friday evening with a friend. Friend had the tapas and I had a burger, both meals were fantastic and well cooked, in particular the burger was great. Usually I am a plane Jane person when it comes to burgers but the cheese burger with all the vegetable trimmings on top (tomato etc) even I can enjoy. Had a cocktail for a drink and although pricey (as cocktails always are) well worth the money. They also offer a reasonable range of beers and ciders which my friend went for and complimented to selection range. Staff all very friendly and pleasant to speak to when ordering. Always a big plus.
I would say one of Kettering's best kept secret's but I think most people local know about and enjoy coming here! If you want a great meal and nice atmosphere it is the place to go. They have really made the interior welcoming whilst maintaining the charm of the older building has to it. Kino is now my go-to local choice for a meal out or an occasion like a birthday.
Keep on doing what you...
