Visited here at the weekend, very busy and the only seating available was outside which wasn't a problem as the weather wasn't too bad. We ordered 1 Churchill afternoon tea and 1 Vera Lynn afternoon tea. When it was served we noticed that some of the cake on the Vera Lynn afternoon tea was mouldy. We spoke to the waitress who appeared to be uninterested, eventually asking if we'd like another piece, which, obviously we did. When another piece was brought out, it also had mould on it. I have taken the cake to the counter to speak to staff who didn't appear to be surprised although I did get a mumbled 'sorry' and was provided with a different piece of cake that was made yesterday. When I've paid the bill, I've explained that we'd left the all the cakes served with the Vera Lynn afternoon tea as we'd lost confidence in the quality of them. No apology was made, no offer of a reduction of the bill was made, extremely poor customer service which was a real shame as the reviews of this place were generally good. For the poor service and mouldy cake received today I wouldn't recommend visiting this establishment and would recommend checking your cake...
Read moreNot to my personal taste, but for history fanatics I'm sure this is a wonderful spot. There are plenty of cakes, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks on offer. The cakes on the counter looked good. We had scones (I ordered a plain but was given a fruit one, and when I queried this was told 'you definitely said fruit'-I don't generally like raisins/sultanas so certainly didn't but no bother, it was quite tasty anyway) and they seemed freshly made and tasted great, but we'd have liked more jam and cream rather than sharing it. I like a large mug of coffee rather than a small teacup but it is a tea room after all. Saying that, looking at the other photo reviews on here I can see photos of lattes served in larger mugs so am not sure why mine was in a small teacup-I could've paid less for a far bigger coffee elsewhere. Personally i wouldn't return but maybe I'm just not a sophisticated tea room type of person! I imagine this would be a nice place to take an elderly relative for...
Read moreWhat an amazing Tearoom , the vibe, the decor, the detail down to the crockery&cutlery, the china, the menu, the furniture et al!!! The staff/owners, who are definitely not from the 40s!, were really helpful, solicitous, very efficient and polite, nay charming! The jacket potatoes, with fab fillings, were great and good value! The cakes afterwards, were delicious, but thereby hangs a tail?! Rooms were very clean and tidy, with a good range&quality of food! Fast, efficient service and always a warm smile from the staff! We talked to the two women owners, who were charming, very interesting &especially when talking about Armenia. Funny too. We shall be back! The Blitz is a quirky, fantastic place and we felt honoured to have been there! Thank you so much!...
