La Porto Norton — Restaurant in England

Awful food & disgraceful service table booked for 7.30pm for 7 people - table wasn’t available till after 8 pm we were told the previous people were still on our table !!. We were left waiting some people standing as not enough seats and no one even asked if we wanted to order drinks until we complained so we were left waiting with no drinks & not enough seats for over 30 minutes. Starters were ok nothing special. Main course arrived but one meal didn’t for a good 5 to 10 mins after everyone else’s arrived. My Pizza was awful dry totally inedible like cardboard I complained that there was no garlic on my pizza which I had ordered and was told someone would get me some it never arrived. Ordered a soda water with a splash of lime drink arrived swimming in lime I went to the bar to be told by the barman - oh I put extra lime in it - when order said a tiny splash only !! Will not be coming back the whole evening was terrible. Restaurant badly ran and a each time we asked for something like extra napkins they never arrived. You have a problem here. Don’t waste your time or money. UPDATE - Following your reply FACTS One member of our party was there when I arrived at 7.22pm. If you have a table booking for 7.30pm you would arrive a bit early as it’s rude to arrive late. Not my problem a previous booking overran by over 30 minutes - this is totally unacceptable to leave us waiting for 35 minutes after our booking time - I can understand 10 minutes but not over 30 minutes. Someone should have come over and asked if we wanted to order our drinks whilst we waited - no one did - I had to ask after around 20 minutes of waiting if someone could please take a drinks order. I shouldn’t have had to do that. Yes I was polite to the bar man as I don’t like waste as everything costs so much these days. You did bring two garlic breads to our table and we were told they were free and your right I should have mentioned that. The rest is true. Finally I forgot to say I was asked to drop off a £20 CASH deposit for the table when I booked so I drove all the way from Yarm to pay it in cash as requested. When the bill came - the £20 deposit had not been removed. Because you had asked me specifically to bring it in I was surprised it had not been removed. I pointed it out and it was quickly removed but surely that should have already been taken off. Upon arrival we found that there was not enough car parking spaces. After entering the restaurant the place seemed to be quite busy and most tables were to full. We were a party of three and to our disappointment, we were placed near the drafty entrance door and squashed around a table of two. We quickly decided that we would like to move to a bigger table and the staff were very accommodating - the new table however was equally as drafty. We waited a reasonable amount of time for our food considering how busy the restaurant was, around 30 minutes. The food was very nice and was well presented however, the pizza wasnt as hot as one would have liked it to be. We were disappointed to learn that the 'happy hour' was randomly cancelled due to the fact that it was mother's Day - which I suppose is kind of expected on a special day in a restaurant?? We were going to opt for dessert but had a last minute change of heart after finding that the cost of the desert was almost equal to a main meal....though the desserts that were being served did look very well presented with good portions. We are staying locally in our touring caravan and wanted to have a nice lunch out for a change. Checked Google reviews and this Italian restaurant seemed to fit the bill and boy did it!! From the moment we walked in we received a very friendly welcome from the staff and throughout the service was amazing. We ordered starters each which were both divine, especially my stuffed mushroom dish. For main course we had a pasta dish and both of these were also excellent. I couldn't manage dessert but my husband had the choc orange cheesecake which he described as delicious. It was great to have fabulous food that was also well presented...compliments to the chef!! We were both absolutely delighted with everything this restaurant has to offer and wouldn't hesitate to recommend very highly. We will be back even if we have to travel the 40 miles from home.
