Called in on two consecutive January Wednesday evenings. This is a lovely, well-presented pub. Clearly a very dog friendly place. The staff are welcoming and polite. Week 1 Ate from the mid-week £15 Pie and Pint and had the chicken, ham and white wine. The pie was great - I didn't get much of the white wine flavour but it it was full of meat and the short crust pastry was fantastic, thick with a great crunch. Chips were hot and crispy and the gravy was thick and rich in flavour. Week 2 Only pie available (of choice of 5!) was meat and potato. Had fish and chips instead. Fish was delicious but chips were underdone, and nowhere near as good as previous week. On both occasions, the food has come out really quickly from kitchen

Can I give the Legh Arms 10 stars ?? Everything was exceptional. We booked a room in June but got Covid and had to cancel and rearranged for July. The pub is very beautiful. Very smart but very relaxed. The lovely lady showed us all the way to our beautiful room and was more than helpful with everything. The meal we had in the evening was again exceptional and Peter the waiter was great fun, but very professional and superb. The next morning the breakfast was again 10 stars ! We have thoroughly enjoyed a long awaited night away despite it raining all the time. The beds are super comfy and we will certainly be back !! Thanks to all the staff (and chef!) for making us so happy.

From first arriving and being greeted with such a warm & friendly manner by the lady (from Devon) every aspect of our stay was nothing short of perfect! From the lovely young team working the bar & food service, to the gorgeous pub area & stunning garden, the beautifully appointed room (Hare Hill) We had lunch sat outside, evening meal inside & breakfast & each of the meals were delicious…could not fault any aspect of our stay & will most definitely be back again!

I would definitely have given the Legh Arms a 5 star review if we had only stayed bed and breakfast. Our room was clean and comfortable. There was a pod coffee maker, kettle, coffee pods, coffee bags, tea bags, hot chocolate sachets, tinned still and sparkling water and 2 packets of border biscuits. The bathroom had complementary shampoo and body wash, conditioner and hand wash. Lovely towels. The breakfast was amazing but our stay was let down by Sunday dinner. Before we booked our stay I checked the evening dinner menu online. I am vegetarian. I saw mushroom wellington, nut roast, hommity pie .... This looked like heaven. I honestly thought I would struggle to choose. That's when it all went wrong. The only vegetarian main meals they could offer was the mushroom ravioli which may or may not have contained chickpeas as it was bought in and not made on the premises ( I have a really bad allergy to chickpeas). The other option was a panzanella salad. To the uninformed, this is made with stale bread soaked in water with tomatoes and maybe other salad items added. I could have added haloumi (if they had it) making a stale bread salad cost around £21. I really had little alternative but to order the nut roast without the star attraction. In other words I just had roast potato, veggies and a Yorkshire pudding. They didn't even add any extra to take account of the lack of the nut roast. It was only when we received the receipt for dinner I found that I had been charged the full price for a nut roast dinner. To be honest £17.95 for a few veggies and a Yorkshire pudding is daylight robbery. The table of 7 next to us also had issues. From their first main course coming out to the last one took 10 -15 minutes, instead of them being served at the same time. One of their meals came out incorrectly and they seemed to be having problems. I heard a male waiter apologising to another couple but i dont know what for. I felt sorry for the waiting staff who seemed to spend the evening apologising to guests. My husband, a meat eater, enjoyed his meal and had no issues. Will be stay again. Maybe - if we can get...

edit number 3*. After all this time, i have still not been contacted. Terrible place and terrible staff. EDIT number 2. Still no reply from the manager, even though he asked me to email him. I guess it gives me more fuel to leave more reviews all over social media.

EDIT after posting this reply, the manager left a reply to send an email to him at the Legh Arms. I hasve sent 2 emails so far, and not had any reply. Absolute total disregard to customers. Every chance i get, i will post feedback regarding the shocking treatment from Legh Arms.

The restaurant looks an amazing place. really nice scenery around the outside, looks nice and clean inside. we had a starter and i tried something the was recomended, but it was not to my taste. I ordered a very well done sirloin steak for my main course. I told the waitress, i need it cooked very very very well done, with NO pink inside. There was 4 of us at the table and we waited for 45mins for our main meal. People came in after us, and got served before us. We ended up having to go and ask where our food was. They brought out everyones food apart from mine. I had to wait a few more minutes. As soon as mine was brought out, I had to send it back, because the steak was not cooked. A short wile later, my food was brought out again, but then i had to wait a few mins for a knife and fork. I then had to send my steak back again because it was not cooked how i asked. Another few mins later, my food was brought out again, but once again, i had to wait longer for a knife and fork. I tried my steak, and it was still not cooked, so it went back again. I then also had to wait again for a knife and fork. And once again, it was not cooked as i asked. By this time, i gave up and had nothing, because everyone else was finishing their meals. This was meant to be a celebration for my birthday and it was a big let down. I will not...

Disappointing Experience Despite Being a Regular

We visited this restaurant for lunch at 2:30 PM on Saturday. Although it was busy, the manager took our order quickly, which was appreciated. The food took around 30 minutes to arrive, but given the crowd, we understood the wait.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food was not up to par. The burger was decent, but both the steak pie and steak sandwich were disappointing. The steak pie had tough meat inside, and the steak in the sandwich was also tough. To make matters worse, the whole sandwich was cold, including the stale bread. We were starving, so we ate everything, but tried to reach out to the waiting staff for assistance. However, they were overwhelmed, and no one checked back on us.

After we finished, it took about 15 minutes for someone to clear the table. When the manager eventually came over to ask about the meal, we shared our feedback about the quality of the food. She didn’t really apologize and explained that the steak pie was from a supplier (despite it being listed as "homemade" on the menu). Regarding the steak sandwich, she just acknowledged the issue without offering much else. When we asked for a discount, nothing was initially offered, but after mentioning the poor quality again, a 10% discount was applied. Frankly, we felt that this gesture was not adequate, and it seemed like we were being brushed off rather than having our concerns taken seriously.

Given the subpar food quality, poor service, and the overall experience, we won’t be returning. We’ve been here a few times before, but this visit has left a bad impression. It's a shame, as it could have been a good experience, but sadly, this time it was far...
