We was exploring The area as a possible place to move too. On arrival we made sure it was a dog 🐕 friendly environment. We looked around and notice several locals had their dogs on laps and on the seats. We picked our seats carefully away from other dogs and thoroughly enjoyed a few drinks with the super friendly locals. All this time Simon our dog had joined us predominantly on my lap and pub style sofa beside us. The bar staff for around 2 hours saw no problem with this and it wasn't until the locals with their dogs left we was confronted and asked if our dog could sit on the floor under the table. Read moreI visited the Rodney as a pit stop on a dog walk with a date...we stayed for a couple of drinks and met the proprietor and his wife who were more than welcoming. The pub made generous provisions for us to sit either in or outside with our dogs, and we sat in a well heated patio area without dogs. Its was lovely.
The staff were all very friendly and courteous, coming saying hello to us and our dogs, patrons too...it was very welcoming to a first time visitor. Our drinks were poured well and tasted great, and whilst us humans didnt eat at this visit the owner was more than happy to provide complimentary sausages for the dogs on a cold day! ( wed have happily paid...but would hear of it!)
Overall, it was a warm, welcoming and lovely visit to Ye Olde Admiral Rodney that I wouldnt hesitate to repeat!
Thanks to proprietors; our dogs felt as welcome as...

Upon entering we were greeted with an unfriendly and aggressive: “What do you want?” We wanted time to look at the drinks available on tap but on both occasions were pressured to get on and make a choice and sit down so the drinks could be hastily brought to our table. We were then asked if we were members of the same household (group of 3). Upon replying no we were aggressively told to separate and sit metres apart. If you want to feel like a valued guest do not visit this pub! Embarrassing unpleasant experience. We all agreed we will not...
