A Disappointing Experience: Not Worth the Visit

My partner and I were looking for a cozy pub to enjoy a meal and decided to stop by this place after seeing it from the outside. The exterior looked inviting, and we were hopeful for a pleasant experience. However, from start to finish, it was far from what we expected.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a man and woman who seemed friendly enough, but things quickly started to go downhill. We were shown to our table without being informed about how to order—whether it was from the bar or table service. After a few minutes of confusion, we noticed a QR code on the table and assumed we'd need to order ourselves, which was fine, but the lack of clear communication was off-putting.

We both opted for the beef roast dinner and, to our surprise, it arrived at our table in less than 10 minutes. However, things continued to disappoint. When the food was served, I asked if we could have our drinks, and the server curtly replied that they would be brought by the "bar team." I was taken aback by the response and confused, especially when she then brought them over with little enthusiasm, making it clear she wasn’t exactly thrilled about her job.

But the real letdown came with the food. The roast dinner was, without a doubt, the worst I’ve ever had. The beef was almost entirely fat, the broccoli was overcooked and hard, the stuffing was a dense, rectangular block, and the gravy had a watery consistency that completely lacked flavor. To top it all off, no one checked in with us during the meal to see if everything was okay, which further added to the feeling of neglect.

We left the restaurant feeling thoroughly disappointed and, quite frankly, disgusted. We certainly won’t be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone. A pleasant exterior doesn’t make up for poor food, lacklustre service, and an overall...

Friendly, kind staff but I had to wait for a good while at the bar for a children's menu, and then again a good while to order as no one was on the bar, then they had to swap tils, then the til was lagging a few minutes behind and then again a big wait for food to arrive too. - it wasn't very busy they just didn't have enough staff on I don't think. It got very stressful as my children were hungry and pretty restless in the end. The chicken in the tikka was not nice at all but the chips and dessert were lovely. We were placed on a large table next to the door to outside access as we were a part of a bigger party.. the door was basically permanently open (late December when we visited) so the baby and myself were quite cold and kept getting whiffs of cigarette smoke which I didn't expect or appreciate. Also when I asked about dishes being peanut safe for my daughter I was told I'd have to look online and search through their website menu to see what it says on there but it wasn't guaranteed anyway?..The fact you can't guarantee a dish is safe regardless of what it says on the menu is worrying but also.. How is it fair I'm required to have Internet access to ensure my child is safe eating at your establishment? Not everyone has a smart phone or Internet access. This isn't inclusive and is an unfortunate flaw. All in all it was just a rubbish trip, but the potential is there. Staff were nice, most of the food was lovely.. Purely circumstantial I think which was unfortunate. Wouldn't rule out visiting again to give...

Decided to try Little Owl as a little treat for my mothers 80th. Knew we had chosen the wrong place as soon as the lady with the face of a slapped ars# approached us. ( I expect she was the manager or assistant as she wasn't dressed smart like the rest of the staff.)We were pointed to our table and left to it basically. We waited for ten minutes or so, expecting a member of staff to come over and take our order, but no one came over. I eventually approached the bar as we wanted drinks and asked how we go about ordering a meal as it was our first visit. To be fair, the young man serving, apologised, and explained the procedure. Choose what we want and order at the bar. Great, we are getting somewhere. I took the drinks back to our table and told our small group. "So what meats are on offer I was asked? So, back to the bar, I go to ask. After a couple of trips back and forth, the food was eventually ordered. The food arrived pretty quickly, although it was precooked and cold. Not happy. By now, I just wanted to leave, but mum wanted a desert, which was the sherry trifle, which looked quite nice actually, hense the star awarded. Unfriendly and moody management, staff ok. Cold food. Over priced. Not a great experience....

Went for a mini break in Chester & this pub was a short walk from the hotel. Place was very quiet but it was fairly late on a Sunday night. Straight away the bar staff were chatty & friendly - had a drink & ordered 2 steaks off the specials menu. Food arrived quick and steaks were mouthwatering - cooked precisely to our order & liking. Had a good laugh with the manager before we left and explained about the coincidence between the pub name / my partners love of anything ‘owl’ related along with an ongoing joke from the tv series ‘phone shop’. He gave my partner a little ‘owl’ gift which was awesome - has had pride of place next to the tv and is currently in Jamaica with her (whilst I am home working may I add). Thank you guys for the hospitality, the awesome steaks, the enjoyable experience & for the special gift (which has pushed me down the importance list). Hopefully will come back soon!

Went here for a lovely meal with family friends during a visit to Chester. Was very impressed with the service, venue and food and would definitely come back again 😁 It was well located just outside of Chester near to Morrisons, premier inn and bache station. Restaurant and bar area was clean, welcoming and tidy. Staff were friendly and polite. The food itself was highly enjoyable. Portion sizes were adequate and provided decent value for money. The menu was full of tasty options at competitive prices. Everything I tried was great. I would highly recommend eating here especially if you are wanting to bring your furry friend. It's a dog friendly establishment with tasty food, a wise selection of options and great deals during Monday to Thursday. Thanks for the lovely meal, much appreciated ❤️
