Plan in advance, I was waiting for my son, who was at a youth club, and I decided to try out this establishment after a recommendation. I only had an hour spare and 40 minutes in a long queue. The food was excellent, and I can see why it is so popular and the long lines. Literally, when I arrived, people were queueing towards the pub. Disappointing to be honest, given its position as top fish and chip shop in Beds. Was there Friday evening around 7.45pm, service achingly slow despite seemingly plenty of staff, who were admittedly pleasant, always a bonus. Chips were pretty anaemic, fish was ok but frankly not worth the prices. Stunned that even though I asked for two medium cod, I had to pay for a large one because “it’s all we’ve got left”. Came here tonight for the first time with my partner. Initially, the queue was long and we figured we’d be there for a good while. However, they were adequately staffed meaning the queue moved quickly. we ordered large chips, two jumbo sausage and curry sauce. It was superb! Chips were fresh and arguably some of the best chippy chips I’ve had. Sausage was also good. Curry sauce had a nice sweetness to it but I think the pot could have been a bit bigger.
