Visited today, asked if tearoom was open? Told yes to when I sit down and look at menu was then told by a grey haired man, we can only serve coffee, teas and cakes, whilst mumbling no staff n said we'll probably have to close shop soon as well, so we got up to leave decided to buy a pre prepared sandwich in the shop, Tuna salad barm, a steak n kidney pie warm, 2 cold cornish pasties, and a large pea and ham soup, soup was lovely my wife enjoyed her Tuna salad barm the steak and kidney pie was OK at best tbf it wasn't great, I usually buy cornish pasty but they had no warm ones so got 2 to take home, no real issue with the food except price not sure of the individual prices as no price list that I could see, so for a steak n kidney pie Tuna barm, a large soup, n 2 cold cornish pasties £24.95 seemed a bit expensive so based on this visit n cost I doubt I'll return, 2 members of staff was messing with till at same time so I am wondering if I've been charged incorrectly,
whilst waiting to be served I saw the grey haired man having a few words with a young man member of staff not sure what over, I got the impression he was blaming him for some reason to do with not having enough staff, all be it in front of customers, I then heard him saying to other customers we've had the worst customers in today and he sounded as though he'd had a bad day, he'll be lucky if he has any staff left with this attitude possibly explains why they are short staffed ( I got the impression he didn't want to be there) I understand the tearoom has only just recently opened after being closed for a long time partly the reason for my visit as I had been here years ago and enjoyed it. Overall not a very pleasant visit made worse by the grey haired man who seemed to be blaming a staff member in front of customers not sure if the man was the owner or just in charge, who then went on to complain about customers very unprofessional behaviour, we get it your having a bad day, this review is based on my visit and is my sole opinion don't let me put you off visiting as I have said previously enjoyed it here, sadly I am now an...
Read moreMy mother and I ordered a jam & custard muffin with a pot of tea and a lemon San Pellegrino. The tea was good quality and served with boiling hot water, which was enough for 2 cups of tea. The muffins were delicious, perfectly baked and a real feast for the senses!
However, I feel I need to adjust my stars after today's experience. Most of the customers weren't using all of the chairs around the table and I found it unusual that she was told she would have to wait ten minutes or so, without asking other customers would mind sharing. As we had 2 spare chairs, I offered to let her know she was welcome at our table if she would like.
She already knew what she wanted....an egg custard and a pot of tea. After a few minutes one of the younger staff members came over with an eccles cake. It amazed me when one or the older members of staff came over empty handed and said abruptly, "You ordered an eccles cake!" What a horrid way to talk to someone. She was clearly embarrassed and I confirmed to her that she most definitely ordered the egg custard. It's sad to hear that she doesn't go to Kirby Lonsdale much and had been thinking about the egg custard on her way over.
Maybe some people will think that it isn't right to remove a star, because I wasn't directly involved, however. It happened on my table and I felt awful for the lady.,
Regardless of how amazing your establishment is, the attitude and customer service of your staff can make or break the reputation of your business. If their service is poor, like today, then you probably won’t see the same customers again, but if they have gone out of their way to make the customer happy, then you will gain more business because of many...
Read moreThis is an odd place. We've been calling in here for coffee once a fortnight as we drive to Leeds and back for the last two years, just coffee because of the timing of our journey, and it's been OK, despite the staff always seeming impatient that we only want coffee. We thought the food looked interesting and the place is always busy so we went out of our way to visit recently and have some lunch. First off we asked for some tap water (we like to have coffee after the meal). "We don't do water" said the abrupt waitress. "We're too busy" she said, and then went on to waste precious minutes explaining their system whereby we could share a bottle of water from the fridge as long as we paid for coffee later. Two glasses and one bottle were eventually brought (the waiter had his fingers in both glasses!) I ordered one of the specials from the menu which was chicken livers with bacon and panchetta on rosti potato cakes. The meal was vast. The livers were completely obscured by very well done bacon and a mountain of crisply fried and incredibly salty panchetta. The rosti cakes were raw inside and brown on the outside with a very peculiar smell as if they'd perhaps been fried in some odd fat. I couldn't finish it and frankly felt nauseous for the rest of the day. Give the popularity of the breakfasts, perhaps I should have had that, but I don't think I can bring myself to return. I appreciate I'm in a minority of reviewers here but I can only speak for my...
