We booked here through Late Rooms. Unfortunately they had finished trading before our stay. When I checked to see if we were booked in, the staff member said he did not have anyway of telling me if I was until the day before we were due to stay. I rang back on the day before our stay and the reception I got because I was enquiring about a booking through Late Rooms was appalling. A chap said I was not booked in as I had booked with a company that no longer was in business. He was a bit off hand with telling this and when I said that they could have told me this the last time I called, he said I was being arsey and put the phone down on me. So I could neither cancel or get conformation about my booking until the day before I was due to stay, so one chap said. The other being the rude one not me. I have read a few bad reviews about this place, so the staff there confirmed this also in the manner they delt with a potential customer. I did call back again and ask to speak the the guy who put the phone down, and was told I couldn't. They also refused to give me his name. If staying in Kirkby Lonsdale stay clear and go to The Royal that is superb (but was fully booked) or Plato's who in the past have been very very helpful with any stay we have had there. I this won't be my only review of this...
Read moreMy husband, 8 week old daughter and I stopped here for lunch during our visit to Kirkby Lonsdale, but were incredibly disappointed with our experience.
Firstly the menu was misleading. We had chosen the hot sandwiches (which the menu stated were served until 4pm at weekends). On ordering at the bar at 13:15 I was informed they werenât served today, âbecause itâs a SundayââŚ
So we re-selected the Soup of the Day and the Sunday roast. We ordered at 13:20. It took them 30 minutes to deliver the bowl of soup, which I had finished eating way before the Sunday roast arrived 52 minutes after ordering! The waiter even said to my husband, âhave they forgotten about you?â Interesting comment when he was serving the tables!
The quality of the Sunday dinner was distinctly poor to average- with soggy veg, to quote my husband âschool dinner beef slicesâ and the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard. The soup was flavoursome, but had a thick skin on the top.
We were at the Red Dragon Inn much longer than we ever intended- and not only did it cost us for the meal- we had to extend our parking!!
Unless you want below average food, long wait times and mediocre...
Read moreWe have just returned from a wonderful stay at The Red Dragon. If you are looking for somewhere convenient, cosy, atmospheric and where they will look after you well, then this is the place for you.
The room was lovely and big, immaculately clean and very nicely presented. The homemade shortbread was a nice and very welcome touch.
The location is so convenient, right at the heart of the village, amongst the cute shops, cosy pubs and eateries. We parked the car on the public car park and had no need for it again throughout our stay.
We thought it would be convenient to eat where we were staying and there was so much choice on the menu. We really enjoyed our food and the surroundings in the bar/restaurant were lovely. As for the breakfast! Well, we could barely move afterwards. There was everything you could need, especially after a few drinks the night before. The full English was superb and the lady who attended to us was absolutely lovely and couldn't be more attentive.
We will definitely be back and would like to express our thanks for a...
