Number for Trading Standards?
Looking for somewhere to have a family meal to celebrate a birthday, we booked Sunday Lunch on the recommendation of our son. The website had shown â50% off food in Januaryâ with Book Now beneath it; so we did. At 4:15 pm the restaurant was empty, perhaps a result of the recent tragedy in Kirkby, so offering such discount would make sense.
According to the members of our party whoâd visited in the Autumn, starters were much more limited than previous: soup or pĂątĂ©. These felt like dishes created for an inexperienced kitchen team and what followed sadly only supported this theory.
Most elements of the roast were lukewarm, though the side dishes of cauliflower cheese were piping hot. The vegetarian roast & Duck breast went down well with our group but the beautifully pink beef must have been water-bathed as it lacked any flavour. The Yorkshire puddings were totally cremated, burnt to a crisp which begs the question; why were they even served?
The real insult however, was the dessert. The majority ordered winter fruit crumble; when it came, it was an apology of a crumble. The sawdust-like crumble topping was so badly burnt, it rendered them inedible; we sent them back. Again, how could something so obviously burnt (and not just one but five!) make it on to a customers' table with such negligence from the kitchen & front of house staff.
Finally when I went to pay, the bill showed no sign of 50% discount on food. Almost embarrassed to ask why, I queried this and was told the offer on the website was only active Wednesday to Saturday. I challenged this as no mention was given to this on the website but this only resulted in an awkward interaction with management where no apology was offered, just the assertion that this had been made clear on Facebook & in a sign in the windowâŠ.Well silly me for not checking Facebook or the sign in the window for the Tâs & Câs.
Regardless of the borderline trading standards issue, an enjoyable evening was still had. Itâs a shame however that in a time where Kirby Lonsdale needs support the most that we wonât be choosing to enjoy another evening at Number...
Read moreWent here for a prosecco night with my main girlies (Karen just turned 40 AND had her divorce finalised, single & ready to mingle! đ I never did like her hubby anyway, thought he was a bit weird but hey ho).
Although the prosecco was lovely, we did get some strange comments from a gentleman sitting to our left. Luckily the manager leapt to our defence and reminded that creature that me and my girlies are actually valued customers (which HE most certainly wasn't!).
Unfortunately the food left something to be desired in that it appeared to be similar to what you'd buy in certain discount chains (think Lidl or Aldi). Music was provided by only one Amazon Echo speaker located adjacent to the dining area. In no way was this sufficient to create the necessary ambience at peak times.
It was okay, but me and my girlies might stick to Wetherspoons next time we go out, which will probably be when it's Brenda's Birthday Bash in November. SO looking...
Read moreWe stopped off in Kirby Lonsdale on the way home from a holiday in the North Lakes, and were drawn into this place by two signs: 'dog friendly' and 'coffee and cake, £5'. Whilst 'inside Number Nine', we were told we could sit anywhere we liked and, whilst waiting to be served, we discussed the decor and atmosphere, which were both very pleasant. We were served by a lovely, cheerful lady who took our order, and a friendly male who brought treats for our 3 dogs.
We ordered lattes, which were delicious and actually hot, unlike in some places where your order is cold by the time it reaches the table). We had a choice of carrot cake or Victoria Sponge. I chose the sponge, which was light, fluffy and moist, and had a taste of my partner's carrot cake, which was also delicious!
Overall, this was a lovely place with friendly, efficient staff and great value...
